since I have not seen Queen yet I'm good with the same set list as before but do you think they might tweak it? What might they add or subtract?
No matter what Brian says in the vids about being adventurous, I would bet it will still be fairly close to the 2012 set with some tweaks and perhaps order changes.
Brian has often talked about being "adventurous" but there are quite a few songs they feel they need to perform.
A good bar would be to look at the differences between the Queen + Paul Rodgers sets from Europe and then in North America (minus the PR songs of course). You might get Days Of Our Lives, A Kind Of Magic , and Break Free taken off.
DEFINITES:
Bohemian Rhapsody
We Will Rock You
We Are The Champions
Another One Bites The Dust
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
The Show Must Go On
Tie Your Mother Down
Love Of My Life
Radio Ga Ga
PROBABLES:
Dragon Attack (due to Adam's like)
Who Wants To Live Forever (again due to Adam)
Fat Bottomed Girls
Somebody To Love
Under Pressure
Don't Stop Me Now
A Roger Track of some kind (I'm In Love With My Car, A Kind of Magic)
HOPEFUL:
A Brian singalong track (like what he did on Hammersmith)
Killer Queen (Seems to be bubbling along as possible)
Save Me (seems to fit Adam)
Is This The World We Created (Brian's been doing this with Kerry so he's been playing it who knows...)
Seven Seas/Keep Yourself Alive
Now I'm Here (used to be a Queen STAPLE but hasn't been done since 1998 on Brian's solo tour)
Doubtful but I'd love:
Innuendo
Spread Your Wings
Heaven For Everyone (w/Roger singing)
Too Much Love Will Kill You
Breakthru
Was It All Worth It
White Queen
Prophet's Song
It's Late
Tenement Funster (w/Roger singing)
No-One But You
Say It's Not True (w/all 3 taking lines)
Let Me Live (w/all 3 taking lines)
Liar
Talon, I would agree with you on "No matter what Brian says in the vids about being adventurous, I would bet it will still be fairly close to the 2012 set with some tweaks and perhaps order changes." EXCEPT....
1. There was something different about Vegas -- not the setlist but the way it felt and I think they really could do something different.
2. Brian seems to want to do something new, dangerous. These are the guys who were written off as done and blew away everyone at Live Aid. They did the same thing last year in Vegas. Roger came up with the idea for a big, new set -- he has not said much about being new and different, but I think he is in the same mindset.
3. I have followed Adam for a long time. He seems to change things without disruption -- with his "wouldn't it be cool if....attitude".
We saw it on Idol. We just saw it again on Glee. Since Glee is has been so static, it was easy to see the changes -- he got them to change his songs and he did Heart (Barracuda - confirmed his idea), and "Marry the Night" and "I Believe in a Thing Called Love". (90% sure these were Adam's idea but not confirmed), he was involved in the creation of the character, the costume (some items from his closet), the choreography, etc. No Glee guest star ever was this involved in the creative process.
They have to do the BIG HITS. They have to do the FAN FAVS. There are Queen fan expectations and Adam fan expectations that they will make sure to include. But I am betting on some interesting new stuff -- including a few changes to the arrangements of some old favs.
>> Brian is right, they have too many mandatory hit tracks!!
Here is my guess....pretty close to your list Talon.
* US top 40 hit.
** US top 10 hit.
*** US top 5 hit.
**** #1 US song.
There will be about 25 songs....plus a few snippets of fan favs that do not fit or that make cool arrangement. Like Dragon Attack+Son and Daughter. I left out those little snippets.
Will they open with a big instrumental number and lots of effects? My guess. But they started Vegas with the keypoard/piano part of BoRhap and "Mama". I am hoping for "Mama"....
I put numbers on my 30 predictions -- 25 songs (4 or 5 of them edited, short versions) 5 instrumentals, they are not in set order.THE MOST LIKELY ADDITION
1. Killer Queen (This song is screaming for Adam to sing it, was their break though hit in the US.)
The song they SHOULD DO WITH ADAM that they won't do. I will put it on my list anyway.
>> No it is not a great song but it could be! And it could be a club dance-funk hit in 2014.
2. Body Language -- was #11 in the US in 1981 without much/any label support here!!! That is in the pre-Soundscan era so radio!
IF THEY DO NOT DO THIS, IT WILL BE BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW IF ADAM KNOWS THIS SONG. HOPE HE LISTENS TO IT.
Queen has never done this live. It would need to be rearranged for 2014 and for live performance. They should rerecord this with Adam and release it as a single. (at the end of this long post).
DEFINITE: .
3. We Will Rock You
***
4. Somebody to Love ***
5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love ****
6. Bohemian Rhapsody (I hope that Adam sings this without the Freddie audio.) ** (1975)/***(with "These Are the Days of Our Lives" 1991 Soundscan era)
7. Fat Bottomed Girls *
8. The Show Must Go On *** (1991 Soundscan era)
9. Another One Bites the Dust ****
10. Radio Ga Ga * (1964 last US Top 40 hit excluding 1991) (Roger and Adam)
11. Love Of My Life (no Adam)
12 Under Pressure * (Roger and Adam)
30. God Save the Queen (instrumental -- end of show)
DEFINITE: Adam favs
13. Dragon Attack
14. Who Wants to Live Forever
DEFINITE -- NO ADAM SONGS -- he will need a break
15. '39
(Brian)
16. A Kind of Magic (Roger)
17. Guitar Solo
18. Drum Solo
19. Drum Battle
20. Drum Battle / Guitar Solo
PROBABLE BUT I CAN LIVE WITHOUT
21. Tie Your Mother Down (I do not have this on my Definite list because it was not a US hit, but it is a fan fav.) (Brian on vocals)
PROBABLE good Adam songs
I Want to Break Free (Not a US hit, the video was misunderstood here, they might play but I think this will be dropped for North America)
22. I Want It All
POSSIBLE
You're My Best Friend **
23. Seven Seas of Rhye
24. Keep Yourself Alive
A Kind of Magic
Now I'm Here
25. Liar (this is one that is also on my DREAM LIST!!)
MY DREAM TRACKS FOR QUEEN
26. White Queen (as it Began) - last performed in 1978 I think.
27. The March of the Black Queen - last performed in 1985 I think.
Innuendo (I ran out of numbers!! And this prob will not happen)
Prophet's Song (PLEASSSSEEEE!)
I am putting this here for the universe. I am sacrificing 2 numbers for them to demonstrate my commitment!POSSIBLE COVERS
28. Jailhouse Rock, an Elvis cover (Queen loves Elvis, Adam has never covered Elvis but channels him in an updated way, Adam had his full Elvis on in Vegas, it would be great to do it in the US one more time)
29. Red House (they did it with Paul Rodgers, Adam did this in Biloxi and WinStar).
WHAT WOULD BE A "HOOT" BUT THEY NEVER WILL DO
Let Me Entertain You (Freddie performed this a lot...is high style. It was a 70's Queen fan fav. It will NEVER happen but I would love to see Queen + Adam Lambert do this fully ADAMIZED!!!
Body Language because this song has just been forgotten (this is the video that was banned by MTV in 1982, first video banned from US TV, US radio loved this song!!)
It is a dance-funk track that was way ahead of its time and shows what a genius Freddie was. It has dated instrumentation. Queen rock fans hated it. UK fans hated it. Rolling Stone panned it (duh! it was a dance track). The label did not support it with promo $. And it still got radio airplay.
In the US it was #11 on the Main Hot 100 chart and #30 on the Soul chart (R&B today) -- that was the radio only chart.
