TALON'S TAKE:
Teo Toriatte (Let Us Cling Together)Written by: Brian May
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals
Brian May - guitars (including outro), piano, harmonium, plastic piano, backing vocals
John Deacon - bass guitar
Roger Taylor - drums, tambourine, backing vocals
- Written by Brian as a love letter to their Japanese fans after being received like the Beatles during their first tour. The band fell in love with Japan - the culture, the fans, and everything else. Japan became quite special to them.
- The ending outro is the same as the beginning of intro before
Tie Your Mother Down complete with the "rising staircase" guitar part.
- The band ended up playing this live whenever they went to Japan and Brian did so as well.
ALTERNATIVE RELEASED VERSIONS:
SINGLE VERSION- NOT essential listening - the same song without the outro.
-Issued as the B-Side of
Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy in some areas, it was also included on the
Greatest Hits that was released in Japan.
JAPAN 2001 EDIT-NOT essential listening - the 2001
Greatest Hits Remaster in Japan had the single version with a slightly longer outro.
HI-DEFINITION MIX 2005- ESSENTIAL listening if only because of the quality of sound. I'm not sure it's the same when on YT but the sound quality of this Brian May remix is just stunning on a proper system.
HI-DEFINITION MIX EDIT2011 GREATEST HITS EDIT- Couldn't find a YT video of either and couldn't be chuffed to upload my own as all it is like the single version, just the Hi-Def Mix and regular mix without the outro. The Greatest Hits Edit is a slightly different edit - just a different part of the outro.
HI-DEFINITION 2011 REMASTERED EDIT- NOT essential. Released as a bonus track on the 2011 Island remastering of
A Day At The Races it's basically the Hi-Definition Mix Edit, just slightly different fading of the outro.
OFFICIALLY RELEASED VERSIONS:
QPR - SUPER LIVE IN JAPAN VERSION- Love this version with Brian singing most of the song (Paul comes in for the bridge and end. This here proves to me that Brian and Roger could tour themselves easily if they chose to. Also it is one of the few times (in the second verse) that Brian sings without a guitar in hand
UNRELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
LIVE IN TOKYO - 1979- For whatever reason, the first few years the band did a truncated version without the amazing bridge section. It's still a good version but it lacks that powerful bridge. It might have been to save Freddie's voice but I don't know for certain.
LIVE IN SAPPORO - 1982- AUDIO only. The only video I could find from the tour features a VERY tired Freddie vocally so it's not a great performance. This is a bit better and it is the complete song at least. A damn good performance!
BRIAN MAY - LIVE IN DUSSELDORFF - 1993- Brian sings most of the song without his guitar here! This is one of the few (if not only - I'd have to do some research) that he did the song outside of Japan!
PERSONAL NOTES:
- BEAUTIFUL song. One of my all time favs, especially from this album. Powerful vocal from Fred, great writing from Brian. It's just a wonderful song.
TEO TORIATTE (LET US CLING TOGETHER)......0% in North American, 85% in JapanNote - I figured they had to play Japan. When they do North America it's always followed by Japan! What else now? :D
