Hey guys! I know it's late and the thread is probably dead, but wanted to let you'll know that I just watched a movie on netflix called "20 Feet From Stardom" about background singers and how hard it is for some who are freakishly talented to become stars. "Sting" even mentions American Idol. You can find it under documentaries. You guys would love it.

I had a strange thought tonight when I read the recap of last night's Idol results show and the use of the save. "A few years ago—in season 8, which is still pretty much the pinnacle of Idol's recent years—the producers decided to fix this by instilling the "Judges' Save"—essentially a manual override of the voting public, which can sometimes get confused by external factors like cuteness or racism." noisey.vice.com/blog/american-idol-44-shock-valueSeason 8 (Adam's season) was also a season that had 3 out contestants plus Adam in the Semi-finals. I wonder if they added the save in Season 8 knowing they planned to have an out gay contestant and wanted it just in case American was not grown up yet. As it is, Adam was close to elimination in the Top 5 show (Bottom 2) add they would not have been about able to save him. Q3 snuck in a fix the typo! You do not think the judges would have used their save on Adam if he had been eliminated in the top 5??? Or did you mis-type? TYPO!!

By the way, here's Adam's performance that day.... And here is the studio version, which is probably once of the most nuanced songs Adam has EVER done.

Allison Ireheta I guess is 20 feet from stardom now.

my guess he is in Miami for a week for a mini vacation. After all, he has been working like crazy. Read somewhere that Sauli had won this vacation so why not go to for a little sun and relaxation…dot dot dot I believe they are back together,, living in his new house and keeping relationship under cover. I don't know where Adam is, but Sauli's in Miami with Finnish friends (one of his friends posted a pic on IG). sigh

Well, they couldn't have because they had already used the save that season on Matt. Once the "save" is gone, its gone. Besides which, I thought the save couldn't be used past Top 6. Adam being ousted in Top 5 still wouldn't have let them use the save (despite that NO ONE could have predicted he was in the bottom that day after that insane "Feeling Good" outing). There was a lot of talk that season as I recall that the save was being saved for Adam! (And then when it was looking obvious that Adam didn't need it they threw it to Matt as a bone because it was going to expire). I thought the save was good THROUGH & INCLUDING the top 5. But I could very well be wrong. ETA. Ok, Wikipedia says BEFORE top 5, so I was wrong. It was a typo -- They would not have been able to use the save because they used it for MATT. *** The save on Season 8 was good through and on the Top 5. They used it on the Top 7 to save Matt.

One of the profiled singers is Judith Hill who was a finalist on The Voice. And it stars Darlene Love, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, the only backup/session singer in the Rock Hall. I hope that Merry Clayton who sang "Killer" on "Gimme Shelter" gets inducted someday. Here is some more info: www.nytimes.com/2013/06/14/movies/20-feet-from-stardom-explores-world-of-backup-singers.html?_r=0

That was a weird week for a batch of reasons. Allison got extra votes because of her birthday and she put on a really dynamic performance that night. That week was also Danny's birthday, and he was a lot better than usual. Kris was good, but received an unwarranted beat-down by Simon, and so had power sympathy votes. And Adam.....was great and yet some people complained he was showboating. Plus it was the usual "Oh Adam's safe". So he wasn't. :( And Adam fans rallied to do a save Allison Campaign. Not a smart move but who knew -- Adam had not been in the bottom 3 and Allison had.

Adam fans were trying to help out both Allison and Kris (because they were mad at Simon) in the hopes of "putting the GO into Gokey". Backfired. ETA: As I recall, the practice of vote splitting pretty much died that night. If the TPTB wanted to stop complacency, they succeeded.
