OK, I am totally done with "selfies" but my day is always brightened by an Adam Self Portrait! And this one was about so much more than camera phone angle.
NEW QAL Concert!! iHeart Radio Theater Los Angeles
This concert will almost certainly be only for winners of radio contests and some VIPs. The theater holds about 450 people and is used for iHeartRadio album release parties and other special events.

Adam's Green and Gold look gets great reviews

Adam Lambert brought style and glamor to the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Jared Leto proved that a shirt could look great and is not the last person on earth to rock Ombre hair.
iHeartRadio Music Awards Ratings -- good on an NBC scale!
Sources: TV By The Numbers, LA Times
On NBC, The iHeartRadio Music Awards earned a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating, tying NBC’s best non Olympics or Sound of Music Live! Thursday night this season. (The other Thursday that NBC averaged a 1.7 featured a special episode of The Voice.)
NBC iHeart Radio Music Awards (8-11PM) 1.7/5 5.45
The iHeart Radio Music Awards, the latest entry in a long list of galas to honor pop stars, drew 5.4 million viewers overall and a rating of 1.7 in the key 18-to-49-year-old demographic. Those numbers aren't spectacular for an awards show, but they were better than NBC typically does with its Thursday comedies.
The show, brought into existence by radio giant Clear Channel and Ryan Seacrest Productions, also managed to beat "American Idol" among those key young adults. "Idol," now in its 13th season, sank to a new Thursday low of 1.5 in 18-49, in which a ratings point equals about 1.3 million viewers.

'iHeart Radio Music Awards' Match NBC's Best Non-Olympic, Non 'Sound of Music Live!' Thursday Ratings This Season
Written By Sara Bibel May 2nd, 2014
iHeartMusic Awards
The “iHeart Radio Music Awards” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall from 8-11 p.m. ET) finished #2 for the night among the Big 4 nets in adults 18-49 versus sweep-month competition on the other networks.
The awards show matched NBC’s top Thursday average of the season excluding Olympics and “The Sound of Music Live!” (the 1.7 was previously achieved on Nov. 7, the night of a special Thursday “Voice”). In total viewers, it’s NBC’s top Thursday, excluding Olympics and “The Sound of Music Live!,” since Nov. 7. The “iHeart Radio Music Awards” are up +31% versus NBC non-sports season average for Thursday night in adults 18-49 (1.7 vs. 1.3) and up +29% in total viewers (5.449 million vs. 4.209 million).
For its sixth half-hour from 10:30-11 p.m., the “iHeart Radio Music Awards” ranked #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and other key demos. And for its third hour from 10-11 p.m., the “iHeart Radio Music Awards” tied for #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and was #1 outright among those nets in adults 18-34, women 18-34 and women 18-49.
The “iHeart Radio Music Awards” topped “American Idol” head to head in the 9-9:30 half-hour in adults 18-49 (with a 1.7 rating vs. a 1.5), as well as men and women 18-49 and adults, men and women 18-34.

The iHeartRadio Music Awards from my perspective
9.3.14 by Q3
I tuned into the iHR Music Award Thursday night for one reason and one reason only. Adam was going to be a presenter and hopefully would make an appearance on the Red Carpet. I am certain I would not have watched if Adam was not on the show.
A bit before the show began, I was set. Tweetdeck up. ATop in a window. TV viewing channels scheduled E! at 7, NBS at 8.
It begins
ADAM LAMBERT @adamlambert
En Route instagram.com/p/neJrcpuNML/
Adam tweets from the limo!! Looks like he is wearing brown but his hair looks like it is still burnished gold. He looks amazing. And that is a Elfie!
Best dressed on the Red Carpet = AFL!
He arrives on the Red Carpet early. And he is wearing a green mohair suit!! And he looks outstanding! And he is standing out!

Now 92.1 @now921
Look at that suit on @adamlambert! #IHeartAwards
He looks amazing. I could fill the OP with photos but thankfully fans rapidly created montages. This one is excellent.

The show begins
A video of Katy Perry drive along Malibu. That is original!
Another award show starts with Pittbull performing. He is doing Timber but no Kesha. (She's only 7 weeks out of rehab and not performing again. Kesha is a friend of Adam's.)
More performers. Thankfully Adam is upfront and I can see him.
Rihanna wins some award but she is in traffic on the 405 and not there yet. And LA Story. Fits the theme. (She's late for many events and concerts. I can't mock too much, Adam often starts concerts late but never because he is not there. Usually because he is overbooked before the show. Whatever.....)
Oh there he is again!
Kendrick Lamar is performing. <I'm bored!>
Wait! There was Adam head-bopping to Kendrick Lamar!!
Adam looks like he likes thos performance! (Like I can tell from the back of his head!)
Oh, yes, he likes it!
Yes, he has a great seat! That’s good.
Oh look, there is some woman blocking Adam!! Please get out of the way! Nice hair and non-dress! Oh that's Rihanna. Wish she would get out of the way.
Lady Gaga tells her LA story. OK it is about leather. Makes no sense. More stories. Chris Martin tells a really good one about flying into LA at night for his first time, and getting to sit in the co-pilots seat of a jet. Cool.
Yes, Blake Shelton is beneath Adam!
Finally, ADAM!!
More performers. More LA Stories. Jared Leto does a long number about LA. They have homeless people in here. And they have these sad, failed impersonators, and stars mixed up in it. I lived in LA twice. I love LA. But this is not LA. Too bad they couldn't do a story about the true wonder of LA instead of the stereotype of wannabe stars.
Thankfully
Finally, ADAM!!
Adam’s LA Story….
He looks great. The blue jacket matches his eyes. The green suit matches his eyes. How does he do that?

Avicii wins the EDM award. He did LMD with Adam. Here he is winning his award. (Yes the man in green is in the background!)
Pharrell does a great long number. He worked with Adam.
Ryan and JLo arrive for the final award. They raced from Idol. Adam was on Idol.
The show ends.
Press, press, press. Lots of articles about Adam in his green suit.
GOOD: Adam Lambert is a class act and was looking suave in green last night. Any screen time with him is A++. Only gripe: He didn’t sing. Who cares that he doesn’t have an album or new song out; hand the guy a phone book and we’ll listen.

All good.
No reason to wonder way this man is smiling. It is all good right now.
Mostly "Playlist: The Very Best of Adam Lambert" gets positive responses
5.3.14 by Q3
From Billboard to USA Today to The Hollywood Reporter was more than willing to help Sony circulate there press release about the upcoming Playlist release. And many bloggers wrote nice things about the album and about Adam.
There were some snarky posts from bloggers but that is what they live for.... Mostly, they missed the concept of what Sony is up to -- it is not a Greatest Hits album, it is the first of what will be decades of marketing efforts to create product from the Adam Lambert catalog that Sony owns. They are a record label, it is how they make their money.
But one comment while snarky, intrigued me.
Rodney Ho, Atlanta Journal Constitution: "Sony is releasing an Adam Lambert greatest hits album. Huh? He’s had, like, two genuine hits, right?"
Link: radiotvtalk.blog.ajc.com/2014/04/29/american-idol-bits-power-5/
Yo! Rodney, but yo! Set aside the fact that this is titled "The Very Best of..." not "Greatest Hits". Let me answer your question -- how many "genuine hits" did Adam have? 9!
Let's say hit = Top 40 song. Let's say there is more to the world than the US.
1. "Whataya Want from Me" US 10, Top 40 in 23 countries, maybe more
2. "For Your Entertainment US 61 Canada 10 New Zealand 10 Australia 32 Finland 5 Japan 2 Latvia 7 UK 37 US Hot Dance Club Songs 5
3. "Mad World" US 19 [And it was probably much higher during Idol.]
4. "If I Had You" US 30 Australia 4 Austria 50 Belgium 50 Canadian 8 Finnish 9 German 36 Hungary 1 New Zealand 7
5. "Time for Miracles" just missed in the US at 50 but was 26 in Canada
6. "No Boundaries" was only 72 in the US but was 38 in New Zealand, unfortunately I have to put it on the list! :( Worst song ever but the best singer ever = not an absolutely awful recording.
7. "Fever" New Zealand 19
8. "Better Than I Know Myself" Australia 83 Belgium 15 Canada 56 Finland 6 Germany 88 Japan 9 South Korea International Singles 27
9. "Never Close Our Eyes" Austria 56 Belgium 14 Canada 62 Hungary 31 Japan 9 New Zealand 24 UK 17 US Hot Dance Club Songs 6 US Adult Pop Songs 35
Special mention: "Can't Let You Go" UK Rock Chart #34
YES, that is correct, CLTG, a bonus track released only in the UK, a track that was not promoted by RCA/Sony, was a top 40 rock track in the UK.
So, let me go back to the question, how many "genuine hits" does Adam have? I guess it depends on how you define "genuine hit" and that is starting to become more difficult in a world where the two standards for for the past 70 years (radio airplay and sales) are becoming obsolete. In a world where 95%+ of music was "shared" privately, and where there are ways to listen to music that cannot be measured, popularity/hits are hard to measure.
My guess is that RCA/Sony has about 20 Adam Lambert tracks that offer a chance to generate meaningful revenue. Oddly, some are not even album tracks.
Expect to see more repackaged Adam products created by Sony in the coming years.

#47 "You're My Best Friend" (1975)
Written by John Deacon
Released on A Night at the Opera November 21, 1975 and as a single May 18, 1976
This song is not on my QAL wishlist but it was a US hit (#9 on the CB Radio chart; #16 on Billboard -- they had different radio station panels). It was also performed once during the 2012 QAL Mini-Tour, by Brian.
youtu.be/fLN8QEH-Gv0
If they are going to perform this song in the upcoming concerts. I would really like to hear Adam sing it. It is a nice simple melody. Not vocally challenging but I am really hoping for a softer song by Adam.
Yes, I continue my hope that Adam gets to sing one or two softer songs.

"You're My Best Friend" was originally included on the A Night at the Opera album in 1975, and later released as a single. In the US, "You're My Best Friend" went to number sixteen. The song also appeared on the Live Killers (1979) live album and on the compilation album Greatest Hits (1981).

Deacon wrote the song for his wife, Veronica Tetzlaff. In this song, he plays a Wurlitzer electric piano in addition to his bass guitar work. The characteristic "bark" of the Wurlitzer's bass notes plays a prominent role in the song. During live performances, the band used a grand piano rather than an electric, and it would be played by Freddie Mercury, while Deacon played the bass guitar just like in the original recording and added background vocals.
The music video, directed by Bruce Gowers, shows the band in a huge ballroom surrounded by over one thousand candles, including a huge chandelier hung from the ceiling. The video was filmed in April 1976. Also, Deacon is seen playing a grand piano rather than the Wurlitzer he used on the recording.
In a December 24, 1977 in a live BBC Radio One interview with Tom Browne, regarding Deacon's control of the piano for the recording:
Well, Freddie didn't like the electric piano, so I took it home and I started to learn on the electric piano and basically that's the song that came out you know when I was learning to play piano. It was written on that instrument and it sounds best on that. You know, often on the instrument that you wrote the song on.
—John Deacon
I refused to play the damn thing (the Wurlitzer). It's tiny and horrible and I don't like them. Why play those things when you've got a lovely superb grand piano? No, I think, basically what he [John] is trying to say is it was the desired effect.

You're My Best Friend
Oooh you make me live
Whatever this world can give to me
It's you you're all I see
Oooh you make me live now honey
Oooh you make me live
Oh you're the best friend that I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
You're my sunshine and I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you
Oh you're my best friend
Oooh you make me live
Oh I've been wandering round
But I still come back to you
In rain or shine
You've stood by me girl
I'm happy at home
You're my best friend
Oooh you make me live
Whenever this world is cruel to me
I got you to help me forgive
Oooh you make me live now honey
Oooh you make me live
You're the first one
When things turn out bad
You know I'll never be lonely
You're my only one
And I love the things
I really love the things that you do
You're my best friend
Oooh you make me live
I'm happy at home
You're my best friend
Oh you're my best friend
Oooh you make me live
You you're my best friend
