Well, we had a great first full day of rehearsal today (29 May) for our imminent Queen and Adam Lambert tour.
We have some new mountains to climb, but it sounds pretty good so far !
Roger, myself, Rufus, Neil and Spike had a couple of days on our own while Adam was acclimatising and taking care of British business, just getting the gear and ourselves into shape. So we were ready for Adam today, and he's in great form and great voice. Many interesting decisions to make. And a process of getting fit and ready in mind and body … it's been a while !
We also did a lengthy (and probably quite interesting) TV interview for Australia. The Oz leg seems a long way away right now, but soon enough it will be upon us ! Amazing to be reaching for the stars again on this scale.

#20 “A Kind of Magic” (1986)
Credited to Roger Taylor although Freddie Mercury was responsible for a large part of the composition, some on the lyrics and did the final arrangement of the single and album version.
Released as a single March 17, 1986 (UK), June 4, 1986 (US) and on A Kind of Magic (album) June 2, 1986.
In 2011 Universal released the demo of “A Kind of Magic” which confirmed that some of the original lyrics from A Kind of Magic were used in “One Vision”. [Some fans have labeled this demo “A Kind of Vision” or “One Kind of Magic Vision”.]

Roger wrote the lyrics to a song that later became the basis for both "One Vision" and "A Kind of Magic". In 1985, unbeknown to Roger who was off to the US for a few days, Freddie took over the song, "polished" the lyrics, added the bassline, some connectors and re-arranged the structure. The new, more pop-oriented version was still credited entirely to Roger. It was the modified Freddie Mercury version that was used on the album and released as a single. This version also included Spike Edney playing some keyboards.

“A Kind of Magic” reached #3 in the UK, top ten in a number of European countries, and #42 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Even though the song was not a Top 40 hit in the US, it is fairly well known in the US because of its use in Highlander.

Although Queen went on to release three more albums with Freddie Mercury vocals (including the posthumous Made in Heaven), A Kind of Magic was the band's last album promoted with a concert tour. For the first time in their career, the band allowed filming of them while they were in the recording studio. The video for "One Vision" shows them in various stages of writing and recording the song.

“A Kind of Magic” Music Video
The music video was directed by Russell Mulcahy, director of Highlander. A magician or wizard or Zorro’s cousin
(Freddie in a black, broad brimmed hat and long black cape lined in red) enters an abandoned theatre (actually The Playhouse Theatre in London) where some tramps are sleeping (Brian, Roger and John dressed as tramps). The tramps are awakened by the magician’s entrance. The magician transforms the hobos into the Queen members dressed regularly with their instruments by shooting animated colored strings at them, and the magician magically turns into Freddie and they perform. Throughout the video, cartoon images dance to the beat of the song. At the end, Freddie again becomes the magician, turns the band back to hobos again and leaves the theatre. The video was produced by the Walt Disney Corporation.In the video Brian does not used his Red Special guitar and instead used a 1984 copy.

The song was a live favorite on The Magic Tour in 1986. It was also performed by Queen + Paul Rodgers on the Rock the Cosmos Tour of Europe, and Roger sang lead vocals for the song at some concerts.
