HOMETRENDING NEWS VIEW ARCHIVES Queen and Adam Lambert Tour 2014: Kicks Off American Tour In Chicago! Attracts Fans Of Different GenerationsBy Staff Writer | Jun 23, 2014 10:51 AM EDT www.kdramastars.com/articles/26015/20140623/queen-adam-lambert-tour-2014.htm
Queen and Adam Lambert debuted their 24-show North American 2014 tour with a spectacular opener at Chicago's United Center in Chicago last Thursday.
The grand debut gathered together fans of different ages-Lambert's younger Glamberts and Queen's more mature audience-in one jam-packed venue.
"We've played to some of your mothers and fathers," guitarist Brian May told the full house. "And some of your grandchildren, I'm sure." According to the Chicago Tribune, the legendary rock group's reign spans generations, from the 70's to the young rockers of today.
Queen and Lambert opened the show with "Now I'm Here," in what the Tribune called a "rocking, dramatic opener" that "set the tone for the theatrical performance."
Despite some technical setbacks, the trio made up for it in style and musical prowess. Brian May's guitar and Lambert's voice "interlaced effortlessly." The Queen duo, May and drummer Roger Taylor, excited the audience with solo performances of their own as well.
Although Lambert was no Freddie Mercury, Rolling Stone praised the artist's glamorous flare and singing ability.
"This singer and all his octave-defying range and theatrical flair owed a clear debt of gratitude to the late Freddie Mercury," wrote the Stone. It also goes on to say that the American Idol finalist "stepped into the late singer's massive shoes" and "proved [to be] as brilliant a fill-in as you're bound to find."
The trio performed "Another One Bites the Dust," "Somebody To Love," "Under Pressure," and other classic Queen songs. They also slowed down Mercury's solo song, "Love Kills," which the frontman composed with Giorgio Moroder in 1982 for a restored 1927 silent film, "Metropolis."
"Bless him [Mercury], but we do a version of this our way." Lambert told the audience before singing the song with May and Taylor on the extended stage.
According to the Rolling Stone, the opening show was "a spectacle in the grandest order." The Chicago Tribune also concluded that the show "epitomized Queen, in all its flamboyant glory."
The Queen and Adam Lambert Tour 2014 is set to perform in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and other cities and will end it's North American leg on July 28. They will then move on to Australia and Asia.

I have these on Page 1 of the Chicago Concert thread tinafea, thanks. I posted Part 2 as soon as it was available and same with Part 3. It's confusing with so many great videos and threads, and some of the vids coming in days later. Great job, tinafea, on keeping everything organized and up to date. I tend not to go back to page 1, but I will now.

Hi to all,
Thank you for all of the lovely concert footage, I loved it all. Trying not to watch everything since I want a few surprises in Houston. I do have a couple of questions as I have not been able to follow too carefully the last few days. I know that they made a change to the setlist from concert 1 to concert 2, could someone tell me exactly what it was?
Also, for any of you who have been to a concert already, I saw the link for concert tshirts etc yesterday and was kind of crazy about the red white & blue shirt, does anyone know if that has the concerts listed on the back, it didn't show that in the picture.
Thanks to all and from all of us lurkers, we do appreciate the hard work you do for us.

I will be Recapping all the concerts on the 1st page of the concert threads for posterity. There will be links to each concert thread in the Performance Recaps section of Atop.

They didn't sing it in Chicago, but did add it to the Winnipeg show. I saw the merchandise in Chicago, but didn't see the back of the red, white and blue one. I think maybe if it had printing on the back it would show in the pics from the store....but I'm not sure. We didn't brave the long merch. lines. Thought maybe in Vegas it will be easier to navigate. I see a couple of shirts that caught my eye. Also, I'm waiting to see which ones we get with the VIP packages. Hope they mail that out to us soon.

From Nan Lawniczak's open Facebook page: June 20 QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT, DINING AT THE RITZ... AND BRIAN! Where do I start? WOW, what a day (Thursday.) First off, my niece gave birth to a 7lb 2 oz baby girl! Then the first of what may well be the last 5 times I'll get to see "Queen" live! The show was fantastic - their best staging ever. Had really good seats, and if you don't think there's a God, guess again. Almost everyone in the arena stood through the entire concert, except for the section right in front of me. I had a TOTALLY unobstructed view all night. Of course Queen being Queen, the gig started about 45 minutes "late." It started off with a tape of "It's A Beautiful Day" and "Track 13" which I love. Then the guitar strums of "Now I'm Here" as Adam's shadow was bounced from the screen on one side of the stage to the other. As the guitar and Lambert screamed, the curtain dropped, and all was revealed in full bombastic glory. A giant O was in the middle and contained a third screen, and the ramp sloping down and the angular catwalk formed a tail - creating a giant Q that remained lit in some form throughout. And the laser lights were phenomenal, especially in "Lost Horizon." There were a few glitches, being first night, like Adam's mic cutting out completely in the opening number, and Brian's guitar doing likewise later. But those are the reasons I attend multiple shows. Each is different in some way. If you like the old stuff, you won't be disappointed. No "I'm In Love With My Car" though, but at least Roger sang TATDOOLives. Adam was a live fashion show, changing more than a half-dozen times, and the shoe cam was hilarious. Hats off to the camera men for doing a superb job all night. Spikes job seemed to be as much about blocking the fans who paid $1200 to sit on the stage away from the action by strategically placed keyboards as playing them. Rufus and the bassist were seldom even seen, though father and son did a short drum dual. Two highlights for me - Adam's purple velvet fainting couch that was brought to the end of the catwalk where he perched and sang "Killer Queen" while pretending to guzzle Moet out of a magnum bottle. Too funny! Funnier still was seeing Brian and Roger strut out at the encore in GOLD LAME! After purchasing the first of several T's I'm eyeing, and getting out to a light rain, we headed to the hotel a sweet fan tipped us off to. Another thing to cross off my bucket list now - yes, I had dinner at The Ritz! (An $18 shrimp cocktail.) Okay, so it wasn't in Paris or even London, but when Rufus showed up in the bar, we sat tight. And patience paid off, because around 2 a.m., Brian May strode by. We were across the lobby. He sat with Rufus, but eventually several in our little gang of 7 approached the bar. Barbara told the security guard that tried to block them from the Doctor that a friend of Brian's was over in the lobby and could he maybe come over. The guy asked "what's the name?" Brian must've heard my name dropped, because he immediately got up and indeed headed over before another word was said! He smiled and said hi to me, and gave me a hug, then plopped down right on the arm of the chair I was in. I introduced my entourage, and then we told him how great the show was and what we liked best. I told him seeing him in that gold lame was worth the price of admission. He asked what we thought about Adam. He spotted a program and thumbed through it, saying he hadn't seen the finished product and pointing out pics he liked. He was relaxed and jovial, and I think glad nobody asked for an autograph, which could be why he posed for a photo with each and every one. The BIG scoop I got was that "Love Kills" is highly likely to be released as a single - though he didn't say when. He must've been there about fifteen minutes in all. As he left, he asked me for the second time where I would see them next, then rubbed HIS hand through MY hair. Not a condescending pat on the head, either. And he was the second person to do that in one night (Linda M. Sorenson being the other.) What a night!!! Next up, front row in MOTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
