This review says more about the writer than about Adam or Queen for that matter.
He probably would like that article from HuffPost. Being gay is ok, as long as you don't show it. No flamboyance.
Imo, that comes through so clearly, that it just is what it is. Simon Cowell made that Frankenfurter/RHPS comparison too, and on one of the performances that has imo held up to the test of time in the best way possible. I still love to watch Adam's BTBW performance.
Some people just cannot get over any gay on display and get stuck in that rut of evaluating everything through than lens, or like in Simon's case, can overcome it, but only very reluctantly so.
The reality is, Adam will always have to deal with the fact that some (especially men) are that way. On top of it, they are of the opinion that their own limited view is the non-distorted one.
I think, we got a bit spoiled with reviews for a few days, some have outright boggled my mind in that I cannot even remember such glowing ones. So, this one is on the opposite end of the spectrum, but it still acknowledges Queen's overall success.
For me the biggest questions about the article are: Did that reviewer leave the venue for an hour and then return for the end? Did he just happen to find both on his exit and his return that Adam was off stage and so he just assumed he was gone for the whole hour, while he was probably drafting his review?
I don't think Adam was gone for more than 5 minutes at a time except for the guitar solo. So much so, that much of this thread here today, was trying to figure out how Adam could get in and out of a pair of pants in time.
Well that is because he did not have an hour, contrary to what this reviewer took for himself.
=============
Adam is devisive. Always has been, always will be. I expect more of this, many positive reviews and a few spiteful ones and nothing much in the middle.
Queen (in their earlier days) and Adam have always shared that fate, but it has changed nothing in the public opinion.
These shows are sold out for a reason. And reviews is not it.
