Been SO remiss about recaps but I HAVE to write about this show. Promise I will get to Montreal, MSG and Merriweather at some point but they are probably a yawn for everyone by now. So maybe not.
I frigging LOVED this show! It was quite a night for Atoppers as you can already see from the pictures but I will let Momtomany and Q3 tell their own story. I was right there in third row on Adam's side of the main stage with SHORT people in front of me - bliss! - so I saw it all.
There were several empty seats on the catwalk between the stage and the thrust and security was lax so I noticed people leaving their seats and heading over. Since I knew the show, I took full advantage of when to be right near the main stage and when to get over to the catwalk and thrust.
I was right at that point where the catwalk widens out to the thrust and always thought it wasn't a great place to be - WRONG!
Though for some of the songs, you could not see them from the front, the presence and energy was still amazing. And then it turned out that it was a perfect place to see the interactions between the band members starting with 39. Got to see Roger really working that drum from behind him, goofing around with Rufus etc. and that was totally cool But then! Oh I wish I had a camera. Adam came out for UP and for almost the whole song he was RIGHT THERE facing toward me while interacting with Roger in a perspective that I have never seen before. His eyes were like lazars locked on Roger throughout their duet. It was really something.
And then I had my Brian moment. He was in back of the band on the catwalk and I was pretty much the only person at that position on the rail. I caught his eye and put my hand on my heart and extended my hand out to point to him (kind of a "I heart you" gesture). He gave me a sweet gentle smile and did the same. DEAD!
If that was not enough, WWTLF! The view of Adam as he sang the most exalted moments under the disco ball almost within touching distance was almost too much to take. First of all, his vocals on it last night were incredible and then there was seeing his face right there lit by that other worldly light. And then there was his energy and emotion when he was singing coursing through me - OMG. And the way they interacted at the end - they were both as if spent and needing to support each other.
Went back to my up front seat for the balance of the show. Adam was just a ball of fire and being that close allowed me to see all the fun - how much he does hydrate between and during songs and the loving and admiring looks he gets from the rest of the band. Can't remember what song but Roger gives him this "I can't believe he just f***ing sang that" look with a big grin.
Then of course I was able to watch all the fun with Momtomany and Q3 which was more than just the one historical and epic moment. They were like lightbulbs up there. I am sure Momtomany will be thanking Q3 forever for talking her into those seats!
And this might sound selfish but I was so happy to not be with family or non Glambert friends as I was able to soak it with my own rhythm not having to think of anything but the joy of the moment.
For me, it was a perfect show.
