As hard-core Queen fans, of course you are always skeptical of a new singer in the band, I mean you can never replace Freddie! But once we got over that, and after the first few bars of music, Adam Lambert won us over in a big way!
As soon as we told people we were going to see Queen, the immediate response is always that it just won’t be the same without Freddie, which is true. But if bringing in a new singer like Adam means that we get to see Brian May and Roger Taylor play live, then we’re all for it!
A couple of us saw Queen play when they had their former choice of Paul Rodgers from the band Free as the front-man, and it was ok. Paul did what he could with songs that were pretty much out of his vocal range. But Adam Lambert as the new choice is much more fitting for the job, and what a job it was! Adam has no problem reaching the high-notes, or belting out the low churning vocals through songs like, Now I’m Here! He also had a solid stage presence that filled the arena, a bit like Freddie used to. Adam made it his own and did not try to emulate Freddie in anyway, which just cannot be done. He really did a stellar job the entire show.

A pretty decent sounding version we think.
Let’s move on to Brian May, who without doubt is a guitar God! Watching such a huge talent live on-stage is mind-blowing. It really does make you want to go home and pick up a guitar, or never play one again all at the same time. His rocking riffs and solos are a force within themselves, he just makes it look so easy.
Of course Brian was using his custom Red Special guitar that he built with his Father out of an old fireplace. That guitar is almost as iconic as the man himself. One of the many highlights of this show was when Brian May swapped his Red Special guitar for a black version, that came equipped with a GoPro camera attached to the end of it which directed a video feed back to his hands and fingers (picture below). You get to see the wizardry of Brian’s techniques up-close-and-personal, which is a learning experience we can assure you.

Queen played a huge setlist of all their most famous rocking hits of the past, including the classic Bohemian Rhapsody which rocked the arena! And in one of the most touching moments of the show was the big screen appearance of Freddie Mercury to sing with Brian on, “Love of my Life”, and then to come back on for “Bohemian Rhapsody!” It was all so well done! The entire show was amazing, including the light show and stage setup. It was one of those concerts that you wanted to just keep going on and on.
It would be such a shame for fans of Queen to not go and see them play live, just because they no longer have Freddie! You would be missing out on such a great show. Who knows, maybe Adam Lambert will win you over like he did to us? But give it a try regardless!
We have uploaded a bunch of pictures from the show to our Facebook and Google+ pages below. Check em out.
