Just reflecting from my new Zen mantra of: "Adam's got this."
Taking the long view, Adam had been working for this for ~20 years. Most people only know his AI time, so that is their reference point, as reflected by the constant mentions. But we know that he has been steadily preparing himself, in every way, for his moment of recognition. He has created a background that has supplied him with the skills to handle any situation, imo, such a wealth of varied performance history, training, personal growth and discovery, pretty amazing, actually.
So I think that's why I react strongly to a single background reference to American Idol. Sort of as if he causally strolled in one day to a audition on a whim and totally by chance got accepted. Which is what the AI references make it sound like, imo. Negates the dedication and hard work, and gives the complete opposite impression to what the climb actually entailed. I can see people looking askance at the first scenario, as if it was all luck, or happenstance.
I think what this tour is doing is providing people an indisputable insight into the work (and of course, the raw talent) that has gone into his getting to this point. There is a lot to admire about his vocal skills, and I think even the casual listener recognizers on some level the integrity and hard work that goes into becoming that skilled, that versatile.
Of course, we knew all along. But so happy to see so many others "getting it."
Plus it doesn't hurt that he is SOOOooo easy on the eyes!
ETA: Chiming in on all the thanks,
