I would rather have a happy, inspired Adam AND a different set of musicians.

Another great concert review!!! Concert Review: Queen + Adam Lambert Posted on September 2, 2014 by SR Brisbane Entertainment Centre, September 1, 2014 Before last night's Queen + Adam Lambert concert, I was hardly enthused by the idea of an American Idol alumnus fronting Queen. Standing in for Freddie Mercury is challenging enough, but it's exacerbated by question marks over the authenticity of even calling it `Queen' without the presence of Mercury or retired bassist John Deacon. Since he passed away in November 1991, many have tried to fill Mercury's shoes. Some (George Michael at the Wembley Tribute Concert) have made a much better go of it than others (Jesse J at the Olympics). But even the best have struggled to truly capture Freddie's campness, charisma and vocals without straying into imitation territory. Until now. The questions I had over Lambert's suitability were answered by the first couple of songs (`Now I'm Here' and `Stone Cold Crazy') . The man can sing. And I mean really sing. He brought to Brisbane the arena-filling falsettos, the outrageous outfits and the flamboyance that fronting Queen demands, together with his own brand of glamour and brash stage presence. When Brian May asked the crowd what they thought of the "new guy", the answer was a resounding roar of approval. Seems a bit early in the A3 era to be worried about Adam's band for his tour. Adam has not even finished A3 yet. Setting that aside, I care more about him touring with people that he wants to tour with. I would rather have a happy, inspired Adam than a different set of musicians. I suspect that as much as I would love to see him hook up with a brilliant band, including an A-Level lead guitarist for his solo tour, I do not want to go to an Adam solo concert and hear long rock guitar breaks or have to suffer through drum solos. (Thinking of the GNT band, Longineau.) I would be very happy to have Zack return on keys. I do not want Adam to turn into a rock frontman, I want him to remain the pop-rock chameleon that I love. So whatever else, I want Adam + a touring band + dancers + sets + costumes + a big show, not Adam as part of a band. it is never too early to think about what the future holds for A3 IMO. These are just musings to pass the time and obviously nothing that the fans want will impact what really happens anyway. I care about Adam touring with people he wants to tour with also but I also care about Adam and his voice getting the best support and representation live that he can have. Dropped chords and bum notes ruin the experience of a live performance. I do not recall excessively long drum solos during the GNT other than when Adam introduced the band to the audience and that was Longineau's moment to shine so he took it. If this tour with Queen has done nothing else I hope it has shown Adam how important it is to be surrounded by musicians who force him to up his game in a live setting rather than having to "dumb down" his vocals to meet their mediocre playing.
How can Adam stretch and grow as an artist if his musicians are levels below his abilities. Sure, I know that to Adam, looks are important, but what good are cute looks in a band if the playing is high-school mediocre. These are not amateur jam sessions, they are professional concerts and people expect as much. Friendship and loyalty are important, but if these band members are true friends, they will remain friends outside of his professional music career.

Now that we have got past the "American Idol runner up" and "openly gay", and "he's no Freddie"; let us hope we are not going to hear "ex Queen frontman"!!!! Roll on A3.

Don't know if we will hear EX Queen frontman, but rather sometimes Queen front man, or Grammy-nominated solo artist when he's not fronting the iconic rock band, Queen. I'd be happy to provide the writers /reviewers with alternatives--but I'm not sure they'll ask me. LOL
