Totally agree, bridgeymah. For instance, in my case, I don't have the appreciation for Sam Smith that so many others do, but I am happy for them that they enjoy him.
Just had a funny exchange with a friend about this. She said she has a friend who is so enamored of Keith Urban that she considered moving to Nashville! Maybe some would look askance at that comment, but I totally understand loving a person you don't even know enough to ponder what might be considered crazy things.
I also do understand exposing people to Adam. I think in my case it is because I believe he is so unique and has such an incredible voice that if they just listen to him they will be blown away. But that doesn't always work, and wouldn't work in my case for Sam Smith.
I'm just glad that Adam rings my bell, and rings it so loudly and consistently! And that there is this community where my fixation is tolerated and nurtured and supported.

I think all of you who are taking 'new' people to Adam concerts are great! And courageous! I am going with my husband to one of the QAL concerts in Europe. And I am absolutely elated that he wants to come. But at the same time absolutely terrified that he won't like it. He is always very critical, and he is a singer himself, and used to be a sound engineer, so he knows what he is talking about too. He doesn't like Adams own music at all, but I did play WWTLF for him and he said 'there are not many people who could sing it like that'. Which is a big big compliment coming from him. I don't think I could cope very wel with rational arguments about stuff that could have been sung better, or sound better or whatever while on an Adam high. I'll just have to trust Adam to bowl him over. (and shhhh.... I booked myself 2 other concerts that I will go to on my own, just in case) I have taken many 'new' people to Adam and to Q+AL concerts. They have all enjoyed the show. I just do not expect everyone/anyone to see Adam live and turn into an insane Adam fan like me. And I make sure to only involved my husband in some of my insanity! I wish I could have a do-over with my husband... I would have not let on the extent of my interest. My only hope is that Adam has a song that makes it big and that my husband realizes he likes it before he realizes it's Adam. I do have one friend who likes Adam and I can talk about him with her, though I'm careful not to overdo it. I used to put Adam's performances, just a few, on FB, but that met with a resounding silence. Oh well!

I've "liked" many things in my life but there are two things that pushed my BSC button. Adam is the first and from my passion for him, the Outlander series of books is the second. I discovered those right here on Atop. I've been pondering why. I've realized that the thing they both have in common is they can't be categorized or labeled in the traditional manner. We know Adam defies genres and in fact dislikes the whole concept of putting his art into a specific genre. These books are the same, they can fit into several genres and the author has had to fight that labeling for years. But she's very successful and I hope the same will hold true for Adam. I guess I have discerning tastes and the run of the mill just won't do. I've shared my love for both of these with others but I don't push it on them. I like to be subtle :D

I have found very few people who share my strange tastes in music, and I confess to not understand some of the singers others enjoy. Just so glad it's a great big world with lots of choices. Best of all, of course, Mr. AFL.

I'm subtle too! Hardly anyone in my life knows I'm an Adam fan. ( for anyone here who doesn't "know" me)
