What is Mercury Retrograde?
Mercury's orbit around the sun takes 88 days; approximately 4 orbits of Mercury around the Sun equals 1 Earth year. Three or four times a year, Mercury appears to slow down, then stop, (stationary retrograde) and then move slowly backwards for several weeks (retrograde). Eventually, it appears to stop again and reverse direction (stationary direct) moving slowly forward once again (direct). Eventually Mercury appears to return to its normal orbital speed.
This occurs because Mercury travels faster than the Earth, and it periodically catches up with Earth, passing us by. When Mercury "goes retrograde" it does not actually slow down, stop and move backwards. It only appears to do so. This phenomenon occurs near Mercury's inferior conjunction to the Sun—as Mercury passes closest to the Earth, between the Earth and the Sun. This phenomenon has to do with the relative speed of the Earth and Mercury as well as their relationship to each other at a particular point in their orbits. There are three Mercury Retrograde periods each year, each lasting approximately 3 weeks.
What does Mercury Retrograde mean?
As the planet of communication, Mercury retrograde tends to breed a certain level of confusion. Mercury rules our "lower" mind--how we perceive and interpret information that we receive from our environment, and how we relay that information to others. Mercury has rulership over such things as speaking, negotiating, buying and selling, listening, formal contracts, documents, travel, the mail and shipping, and so forth.
Classically, Mercury retrograde periods are not considered ideal
for engaging in Mercury related activities such as:
• placing ads
• making important decisions
• travel
• purchasing communications equipment
• signing contracts
• initiating business deals
• sending important correspondence or any type of message
• starting school or any important project
• beginning any new enterprise (as plans may be reversed later)
There is a positive side to Mercury Retrograde. This period is best used for re-organizing and reflecting. We look at the world a little differently--through different filters--and can come up with some very important inner revelations. A Mercury retrograde period is thought to be excellent for:
• reviewing and revising plans
• catching up on old business
• cleaning out the metaphorical closet
• deeply considering issues

Every Adam fan has a story. And almost every story starts with hearing Adam sing. My story is typical – I (luckily) was watching Idol the night they played this audition from San Francisco. He had me at “Hello” – well actually at “Mama”. That first pure note I heard him sing.
But yesterday I met a brand new Adam fan --- about 2 weeks old --- who became a fan because he heard the live version of “Fever” at a friend’s house. This new fan started telling me about this great singer he had just discovered. I said I was familiar with Adam. He insisted on playing a song by “his” discovery for me. I said I really knew a lot about Adam and thought I had heard everything he had recorded – but I was always happy to listen to an Adam song.
I listened to GNT “Fever”. As the song played, I decided that I needed to “decloak”. I said that I loved the song – but explained that I had seen Adam perform it live a few times. I continued by showing him a few of my favorite Adam videos.
The new fan was completely hooked. I could tell when he asked me to send him a few videos from my archive.
Last summer, I met a number of post-Idol Adam fans at GNT concerts. But this is my first random encounter with a new Adam fan.
I have no idea how frequently Adam adds a new fan but I am certain that he added at least one new fan in the past 2 weeks. And I found it very doubtful that I stumbled on the only one.
