Whew! A couple of days went by in nanoseconds. what an emotional rollercoaster. Very cathartic. Everything that I could've hoped for and beyond.
First of all, it was fantastic to meet all the lovely atoppers & their friends and partners in crime, my soulmates and sisters in spirit. It's just lovely, when people can connect like this and speak the same "language", and I'm not talking about the english language. Q3, Bama, Katycake, Lelemaple, Dancy, Bristolgill & gorgeous daughter, Justgill, Momtomany, our own celebrity! ..... I can't even remember everyone. And SophieB, my girl. Hope I did not scare you when I "bearhugged" you in front of the All Bar One. Your sister must've thought who's this crazy person! Hahahaaa!!! It was wonderful to see you again, bb! Bittersweet, as I only had this limited timeframe to spare and I Want It ALL!
The magical @magi_cal, our lovely streamer of the first two shows, was staying at my hotel. I had met her previously in Helsinki. Was lovely to spend more time with her, and she joined us on our Sunday dinner.
I haven't had the time to read here, Twitter, watch any videos, so I have some major catching up to do... It will be lovely to relive it all over again via videos and photos. The two shows were both great, but very different, and a vast improvement of the first two, Newcastle & Glasgow. (And especially Glasgow was still a great show.)
The Saturday at the O2 was very emotional for me. When Brian came down the the runway tears just started flowing.... He was crying too, during his set. I had thought that I was on clear waters, but the same thing happened again during his guitar solo. Go figure. Looking back, for me it was possibly because this was (probably) the last time I could see Queen live. I've been a fan since 1975, so it's kind of a major deal for me. Adam was great, but after comparing the two nights it seemed that he was "working hard" both vocally and performance-wise. Maybe because of the first night jitters in amidst of hardcore Queen fans, the filming, new setlist, you tell me. But I was mesmerized and stood up the whole time. Despite some distractions... After the show my feeling was that this was the best QAL show up to now, and that it would be impossible to top.
On Sunday, you could immediately feel the shift in the atmosphere, in both audience and on stage. Adam was this goofy, grindy, dirty, hilarious, nasty, campy vocal tornado. Everybody having fun on stage, relaxed and drawing the audience in from the very start. Funnily enough, Bri's bit was great, but I did not feel the same connection as the night before. I also noticed, that during his guitar solo, there were at least two times, where the audience thouhgt he'd finish his solo.... which he didn't. On the other hand, the drum battle should've lasted longer, but maybe a longer set would be too straining for Rog, bearing in mind "I'm too old for this shit" -remark. Albeit half joking.
Adam did an amazing job as a frontman and vocals were glorious throughout. So whatever was holding him back the night before, it was gone. Maybe the reviews coming in from the Telegraph & such, were a relief for him. LOTG_r best I've heard him sing it, ever. STL, SM, WWTLF, etc. brilliant. And the crowd was eating from his hand. Plus he looks really great in tartan
So, I just LOOOOOVED IT! Thanks to everyone making each of my days special and worth while. Looking forward to meeting everyone, sometime again, somewhere.
Marra
Marra, thanks so much for a fantastic review!!! And those two concerts are for the ages - I'm so glad you were there with the other Atoppers and having so much fun. I think I know how you feel about Brian and what a big deal it is. For him, there is a quiet joy about it all now. He reminds me of Clint Eastwood - sage, seen it all, has sifted the wheat from the chaff, knows what it's really about now. It's about the music and the audience. He just lives those two hours with his audience that comes with wisdom. There hasn't been one video that I've seen where he doesn't seem overwhelmed or not grateful for it all. Every concert, where he is the last one off stage, and raises his guitar and takes a final look at the audience crushes me. It was a bit of an emotional roller coaster for me when I saw him because I felt he was saying both 'hello' and 'goodbye' in the same breath. When someone's young like Adam, I assume I'll see them again. I couldn't do that with Brian or Roger. So I drank them in very consciously. I didn't do that the one and only time I saw them live with Freddie. Was that concert being filmed for the possible concert dvd??????? Other people have said that. If it was, that is a possible explanation for how Adam was on stage. I felt that in Sydney, it definitely altered his performance and there was an element of 'work' to it. He just takes it to another level of professional. Both O2 concerts were spectacular to me, but Sunday definitely was special. I actually think it will get better even from these ones .... they just keep on going to different levels after they've performed together for a while. And a lot of it depends on the crowd, as you say. The vocal solo & audience participation bit is back. Previously I have sometimes thought that it's way too long (judging from videos of NA tour) and Adam still needs to do some work on that. Now, dont' get me wrong, he's always brilliant and I enjoy his "vocal masturbation" immensly, but being the calibre of a Singer he is, it's sometimes hard/impossible for the audience to follow through.
Having said that, and being in the audience, it was great fun, especially the competition part. It did not go on too long and audience was into it, really singing. I do not know how it comes through in the videos, (did not watch yet, thanks) but no complaints from me. It was a lot of fun, goofy bit of interaction.
P.S. If anyone's ever wondered abt my name, PostFestum, it's a glorified way too reference to a hangover. Post festum in latin means "after the party". I'm not much of a drinker, these days, but I'm kind of feeling a bit hung over now that all of this excitement and fun is said and done. When I have a clear head, I might be able to remember something else. But as very often here, it takes momtomany, aleks, juniemoon, nikki, etc. to put down in words eactly what I'm feeling. So I just find those recaps and add my smiley ditto! to their posts. Now back to real life for some hours. BBL. Thank you for your kind words. I loooooooooove the vocal solo. So glad you had fun with it. I started having heart failure from Glasgow etc thinking they'd taken it off the setlist for good. But I also love the way Adam had the crowd participating more 'informally' during more songs as well at these concerts. I love it even when he messes it up. Because it's just him and it shows you were he's at - his confidence levels, how he's reading/feeling an audience, how in the moment (or not) he is. I think it also wakes some people up when they try to 'sing' what he sings. Another example of just how easy he makes it all look. I don't think that's lost on the audience. He seems to be getting the point that people don't seem to understand they can sing in their own key no matter what he is doing - and he seems to have finally realised that getting the blokes (men) to sing low and the women to sing higher is a smart move. Those boys were LOUD. Sometimes it is painful to watch, but it is so much better than doing it with AOBTD. I think that is the key, watching it verses being in the crowd at the time. It is a time when they can really enjoy Adam playing with them. Most seem to take it that way. I always feel 'sorry' for the right-side crowd when he's doing a 'competition'. They sounded pretty loud and great to me at these two concerts .... slavedriver Adam. Hope your landing back to RL is a smooth one ....

Great recap, Marra. We were so privileged to have been there both nights; will remember always. And so wonderful to see you again; epic bearhug called for. Love sharing these times with you - and so many others from these pages.... You Want It All? I think Adam gave it this weekend. Til the next time....

Dr. Bri has posted his 3D selfie stick video from night 2! www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m6XNZiP2U8I made my own poverty 3D glasses by attaching red and blue plastic to my actual glasses and trying to view the video through them. Times are tough. Of course, you can just turn the 3D off, but it's way more fun to have the illusion that your computer screen is a portal that leads directly into the arena.

Home Sweet Home . . . .
Not quite adjusted yet. 3:20AM, wide awake at the computer.
Today, and in the coming weeks I'll rush home after work to Adamtopia each day; and revel in the comments, photos, videos, and recaps of what's been conjured up on that golden stage.
A kind of magic, indeed!
I paid homage to the Universe that floats behind Brian in the 'Q', and for eight days it really was a pleasure cruise on a rocket ship on its way to Mars . . . sharing the journey with such lively and lovely friends. Just now, mentally, I tried to go around the dinner table at the O2 and list each person, but if I missed someone - anyone - I would shrivel in embarrassment. We must have had nearly twenty in all! Every single person so uniquely special - there we were, from all over the map, singularly devoted and thrilled over what we had seen or were about to see.
Just a few comments about the London Days of O2 -
Think Adam's hair was all-over darker on Sunday - matching the dark, rich tones of his lower register. Adam is adored! I mean, every man, woman, child had hearts in their eyes; even as they'd shake their heads in absolute awe over his voice, his looks, his 'body language' . . . just like us! Roger's shoes look to be covered in shiny little glass or plastic beads - mostly red! Roger's eyes are transfixed on Adam as they sing 'Under Pressure' -
The nimble stage crew move with absolute precision; they are performers, too, and their role in creating this seamless, confident production is worthy of knighthood! They build the set! They prepare the Kabuki curtain, tweak the drum kits; switch out guitars and microphones; deftly care for that beloved chaise; light the way off and onstage; monitor every moment, and when it's over their works amps up - tearing down and packing every piece of equipment; every screw; untangling the miles of cable; and leaving the venue with nary a piece of confetti in remembrance of what took place. It's a little like 'Burning Man' to me - their 'Leave No Trace' philosophy in action. When I was backstage I noticed how Brian said hello to everyone he passed, greeting each member of this marvelous team by name.
I was in the stands - first row about midway down - for both O2 shows. Great vantage point for watching the standing GA crowd begin as a calm sea that became more turbulent through the night; until, by the end, their mighty roars and gestures and singing just crashed towards the stage; a huge breaking wave of love for Queen - and Adam. We all became part of Bohemian Rhapsody, backlighting the arena with thousands of cellphone beams from every corner. It was collective devotion; our intimate display of love - of Brian & Roger, of Freddie, of Adam and the resurrection and new life given this music. Suspended in beauty and wonder.
London itself was on 'high alert' - given the world events of late. Our little shuttle to the tube station was stopped at a barricade, and the officer leaned in and wiped the steering wheel of the vehicle with some sort of revealing cloth, and then let us through. At Heathrow yesterday, every container was inspected - not just the small ones put into a quart-sized bag. A very polite, efficient woman checked my mascara and opened the little mirrored compact given to me for good luck by another Adamtopian. She asked for an explanation about a small jar where I kept my pink glitter . . .
There was fantasy; there was reality. And I do think there will be more to come. Queen and Adam have told us themselves: 'Don't stop me now! Don't stop me! I'm having a good time! I don't want to stop at all!' La La La La La!!!!!
Safe travels to all who will be in Leeds, Manchester, Germany, Italy, Paris and throughout Europe. I give you my love for Adam to carry with yours, in your hearts. I hope there's room!
