Idol Musings
The Deal With Adam Lambert’s Big Deal
"When the CEO of a major label grants an interview to Billboard about a new artist signing on the day that said artist is going on national television as a guest judge on American Idol, that’s a good indication that he’s serious about promoting that artist. And that’s good news for Adam."
"A key element of this project is radio friendly songs. While technology continues to change the music business in dramatic and unforeseen ways, radio airplay is still the center of the hit-record universe. One of the things Trespassing lacked was a hit single and for his part, Adam said one of the things he’s learned in the business, and by the business I mean the industry, is how important radio is.
And where does radio airplay come from? First, promotion, promotion, promotion. The record labels must decide whose songs they are going to actively promote and then they must work hard to get radio station programmers to play those songs frequently on the air.
The second, and more obvious, is writing songs that radio will want to play. Enter Max Martin, one the great hit makers in music history. Only two other songwriters have had more #1 songs than Max, a couple of guys I like to call Lennon and McCartney. His work is on the soundtrack of your life somewhere: Britney, Backstreet Boys, Celine, Christina, Pink, Kelly, Avril, Katie, Taylor – no last names needed."

Leeds sold out of the few remaining tickets day of the show. So, mods, please change the concert schedule above to say Sold Out for Leeds! Leeds will be reported as SOLD OUT but there were a few single VIP tickets thathat were never sold. The box office had 5 singles left. I could not confirm status until about an hour ago. I will update the page later. This venue had a lot of trouble managing the tickets and since Dec 25 was saying it was sold out of tickets but then would get a few more. I was watching the on-line ticket site for Leeds and they did add several tickets approx. 2 hours prior to curtain time in the VIP section but for the regular 77GBP price and a number of GA tickets. The seats were sold out within an hour. The only tickets showing on-line about 20 mins prior to the show were the GA ones, the listing said "low availability" for those. IDK what "low" is and it probably sold anyway. It is quite possible the venue had their own tickets that did not show on-line.

I wonder if Simon ever reads these reviews and sits there in a cold sweat remembering how close he was to voting "no" at Adam's audition...

I dunno- I never saw anyone work as hard promoting an album to radio as Adam did on Trespassing. He went to every podunk radio station in the country for months on end and look where it got him. They also need to choose the right songs to release as singles. Anyone know the status of sales for AFL's birthday concert in Cologne? Also, I don't recall seeing a charity-call from him for his birthday. If there isn't an official one, I may just do Charity Water again. Maybe I missed it?
I saw on twitter someone /group organizing something for his birthday. Some charity or something.
Well, that clears it up

I was so glad Michael and Melinda mentioned how rude Harry Connick and Keith Urban are when they talk and carry on through a contestant's audition. What a contrast to how engaged Adam was with every contestant, they had his full attention.

I got a great question from abriton about how Adam maintains his voice throughout this long, grueling tour. I replied in the vocal masterclass thread. If you are interested, check it out. Thanks for the question, abriton. adamtopia.com/post/575329/thread

Testing to see whether I can make the tour map large enough to read. I failed.
