Since it's slow I'll bring this up - I know you all were watching RPDR last night. I wasn't because I don't get LoGo :( So I watched American Experience on PBS. Covered the Stonewall Uprising in 1969 and what led up to it. I was around in 1969 and was apparently clueless about the full extent of the horror going on. In retrospect I'm ashamed. All I can say is thank GAWD Adam didn't have to face this ugliness. It's bad enough now - much worse then. Anyone else watch this? Yes, I watched it, and I was horrified, especially by the introduction, when it described the attitudes toward gay people back in the 50s and 60s and the "treatments" they were subjected to, including electric shock therapy and lobotomies for fuck's sake. At the end of the program I had tears in my eyes when more than 2,000 people showed up in Central Park for the first Gay Pride gathering in 1969. Then the Stonewall show was followed by a contemporary documentary about a gay teenager in Oil City, Pennsylvania, who was severely bullied in high school, and how he rec'd death threats, and threats about burning his house down... This boy and his mom were completely awesome, and also made me cry. These shows rip my heart to shreds, but I'm so damned glad they're on TV. Kudos to PBS.

GOD HE'S SOOO GREAT. Such a pro, always a pro, but somehow remains human and personal throughout. Sign of the purest pro. However, speaking of great, I can't help it, I feel I MUST jump to the defense of Bob Dylan here !!! 8-) Mods feel free to delete for OTness, but I can't listen silently while the greatest American lyricist EVAH is so coldly maligned I know, I really like Dylan for his great lyrics and he was revolutionary for his time. Wrote some really great songs. Just think what they will be saying about rap in a few years.

I'm busy here at work but just wanted to pop in for a minute. I met Mayumi (visiting So Cal from Atlanta area) and SusieFierce for dinner last night. What fun, interesting and accomplished woman. Enjoyed our visit very much and we were never at a loss for words, that's for sure. I have to say, from my experience, Adam has attracted the brightest and the best (along with the few whackos - see "fan" vid above"). Next time, hope we can get more local folks to join in. But I do have to go against the flow here on Bob Dylan. To this day when I hear his old recordings (when you could understand every word) it takes me back to an amazing time in history. I was a teenager, but still felt that a major change was happening. People were questioning everything, not the least of which was Viet Nam, but also the dominance of the white male. Women, Blacks, Hispanics and gay folks were all speaking up and being heard. His music spoke to what people were feeling and believe me, the feelings were intense and kind of scary. But it felt good to be part of something that just might make a difference.....and it did make a difference. So yeah, it wasn't what we played when we wanted to dance, or when we fell in love and no one was saying wow, he sings 4 octaves, it was much different than that. Apparently it doesn't translate to later generations but I hear those songs and I transport back to a time and a place of youth and hope and change. Marching against Prop. H8 brought back a lot of those feelings, too.
