My Message to OTT Fans…..

I try not to judge other fans. I am committed to a belief that there is no right way to be a fan. I believe that freedom of speech and expression is a core value that must be respected.

But I am equally sure that there is a wrong way to act and to treat other people – and that applies to public figures and celebrities.

A couple of Adam fans when way to far on Sunday night at the Ru Paul Drag Race Finale. And then they made it 1,000 times worse by using Twitter to brag about their exploits.




Small interruption to thank the good fans!

So there are respectful Adam fans and they often get surprised by Adam. But the OTT fans almost always get rejected.

And a word to the unaware, never underestimate the power of the Glam Nation – Tweet about Adam sightings at your own risk. You will get a massive number of responses.


Now back to the dark side of fandom!

One of the overly aggressive fans (the one who bragged on Twitter and had the video camera) posted a follow-up that included an “explanation”. Here it is…..

Now I understand that some people can get a bit nuts when it comes to Adam. But there are some things that are just mistakes. If you make a major mistake, the best response it to say you are sorry and then move on. And this was preplanned – premeditated -- OTT fan behavior.


Now for my message

If you want to be a completely OTT fan, leave Adam alone. Today, Adam is a very accessible celebrity. He talks to fans in restaurants (see above), signs autographs in airports, and poses for photographs with fans who approach him respectfully. But it will only take a few more incidents like this and Adam will shut it all down and be forced to crawl into a celebrity bubble.

Do not be the cause of this. Your life will be miserable. But so will the lives of literally millions of fans.

So the next time you are tempted to bring an unauthorized video crew with you to a private party because you heard that Adam might attend, think about it really carefully. Your OTT behavior could alter the Adam Nation in ways we do not want to imagine.
