Max Martin haven't had a lot of success with male popstars. Only with boy bands and female pop stars. Actually What Do You Want For Me is probably his biggest hit with male popstar.
Max works primarily with female artists, mainly, if I had to guess, because their voices are much more versatile than male voices, as is their musical identity. That said, he has had some big hits with male pop stars as listed below (note these are all within the last five years).
Usher's DJ Got Us Fallin In Love was a bigger hit for Max, peaking at #4 on the BB Hot 100 and #1 on Rhythmic selling over 4 million singles.
Taio Cruz's Dynamite peaked at #2 on the BB Hot 100 and #1 on the US Top 40 Singles chart selling over 5 million singles
Justin Bieber Beauty and the Beat #4 on the BB Hot 100, #2 on the US Top 40, sold 2.2 million singles.
I'm wondering in what way female voices are more versatile? I'm used to the idea that men's voices are because they can have a much larger range if they choose to use falsetto, which many do. I might have assumed Max works with more females because they tend to be into pop music more.

He also produced the song that launched Kelly Clarkson into the stratosphere, Since You Been Gone. That song is what put Max (and Dr. Luke) back in the game IMO because prior to that he hadn't been doing much.

For me it's the ability to sing multiple genres not scale the range of notes.
I think Kelly Clarkson has one of the most versatile voices in the industry because there isn't a song she can't sing and make it sound completely authentic. Not many male singers can jump from country to classic rock, to pop, to Etta James/Frank Sinatra. etc.

Great points, Glitter, and I agree! Could also just be because there are so many more females. Just a percentage thing. DJ Got Us Fallin In love is my favorite Usher song!

Yesterday when i was driving i heard a DJ saying "and another hitsong from THE Hitproducer....Max Martin" (no, it wasn't Adams new song being played unfortunately). And it made me wonder that it is special that Adam could work with Max Martin, because i think LOTS of artists want to work with him, being the hitmachine he is at the moment (and has been for the past years). I think he has a long waitinglist and that Max Martin has to say "No" to many requests. So that made me even more proud of Adam, cause i think it means that Max Martin knows what a great artist he is. He is in demand and expensive! He produces songs more than he produces complete albums! I think you can count the complete albums he has exec produced on one hand, if you don't count his old ones in Sweden when he was starting out!
