With sports, I'm kind of a wimpy fan. I always like my teams, but I don't get CRAZY about them unless their winning. It's too heart breaking to follow them closely when they're losing. But Adam has ruined that too. I'm a Green Bay fan and I barely paid attention this year until they were in the playoffs. And oh yeah, the Lakers are in the second round of the playoffs too ... I guess I should catch a game soon. : : Before Adam, I would have been checking the scores in the paper every morning. LOL. IKR - I used to be an avid Lakers fan but playoffs, what playoffs? And last summer, instead of watching baseball with the family, I'd be happy they were "otherwise engaged" so I could be on the computer. In other news, my (gay) middle son just decided it was a beautiful weekend to go stay with his friends in LA. He said tonight they'll probably go out to the clubs in WEHO. OMG!! Freaking out. But I said, very casually, if you see Adam and Sauli, would you send me a picture? He chuckled (at my casualness) and said he would. LOL If this happens, I swear I'll find a way to post it. I'll be at a dinner party but my phone has skills, even if I don't. I'll go in the bathroom and FIND A WAY.

As for fanwars, it was all a revelation me that they existed, when I started stanning Adam. I didn't even know there were online boards devoted to discussion and analysis of reality shows and talent competitions, LOL. I quickly learned that I don't have the stomach for the fanwars on mixed boards. But then I've never liked competitive sports, either. I have to think that the heavily-invested, online contingent of both AI and Adam's fanbase is very small in comparison to the whole. I remember being shocked that most of the fans I encountered at concerts were not online at all. Like, WUTTT, you don't have a Twitter account???? And then I remember all the other artists I absolutely adore, whose albums I happily buy. But I haven't the foggiest idea what they are up to on a daily basis, nor do I really care, lol. Doesn't mean I won't buy their next album. I think our perception is way skewed. When I first fell (literally) into Adam fandom, I was like a kid in a candy store. All the boards...so much info. I soon realized how insular things were, though. I pulled back because the negativity was making me feel so bad. Discovering Planet Fierce/Adamtopia was wonderful. My perception was skewed in a good way. Diverse, articulate opinions all united by love of Adam and his positivity. Such fun! And as someone pointed out recently...I would trust many of you in "real life". Blog on!

(The skunk and I will weigh in as this is an issue of deep interest to me.) Fan wars - and similar behavior - are sparked and perpetuated by immaturity and lack of personal accountability. (No need to put lipstick on that pig as my uncle used to say...) Wading though pages of mean-spirited vitriol can absolutely wear one down and rouse the lizard brain (I speak from experience), but the minute you hit that reply button 'because they started it' (seriously - did anybody's Mom accept that excuse?) flags should go up. Sure, you tell yourself, you're going to be one of the few voices of reason and not be snide or superior about your position. Not take shots at the other person's object of admiration. Yeah, that's the theory. But, really how often does reason make any real headway and it takes two to slap fight. Reasonable, mature people quickly realize they have no desire to hang around places/people like that. Sure it may be fun - but like eating foods that are bad for you day in, day out, it takes a toll. So maybe have the super ego put a leash on the lizard brain and stroll it on over to a community where you spend most of your time enjoying the happier aspects of fandom (or whatever - politics, media, etc.) and save your hammer of internet justice for meaningful (as in have actual influence) and deserving targets. Or you may be one of those people who enjoys allowing your inner mean girl/boy out to play - it is only a virtual playground after all. Who could get hurt? I don't know how many sites I've abandoned (not Adam specific) b/c of the hatefulness of the tone. And the response to any complaint is always the same "oh, that's why we're here - to mock" or "we're just in it for the snark." Please. I enjoy satire and snark but junior high yuks and thinly veiled bullying not the same oddly enough. This always reminds me of the bit Ellen Degeneres does where she talks about people who insult you and then say "just kidding" - her response "well, you're not doing it right because we should both be laughing." Of course, better moderated sites have their own lesser struggles with passive aggressive biting and concern trolling but it's better than name calling and actually embracing your not so inner troll. I bought the book below at the airport and it's really quite good. Articulated and confirmed a lot of things that had been increasingly bothering me. Of course, the author doesn't really think things will get better any time soon but does hope to get right-minded folks to take a look at the consequences of falling down these particular rabbit holes. (Maybe good for young people - that recent article in Rolling Stone about the "internet girl" who's 'name' I refuse to use was sickening on many levels.) Title: "Virtually You: The Dangerous Powers of the E-Personality" This is a short abc news bit on it: abcnews.go.com/Technology/online-life-harms-civility-creates-aggressive-personality-psychiatrist/story?id=12771299[Feeding the skunk some well-deserved lettuce and wondering how I forgot that pouring hot water in a crystal pitcher is...unwise. I'll just stand here and pick glass out of my hair while I refresh basic science rules.]

Zinnia, what if you were a Kris Allen fan, though? I feel like Adam is so special that OF COURSE he's going to do well. But what if you went this nuts over someone and they weren't getting any recognition from the outside world. I can see where I would start resenting the "competition". Boo Hoo, RCA likes the other guy better. If my guy got that gig, he would be in the papers, too, etc. It's easier to back a winner. That's why teams like the Yankees for example have fans all over the country. We just were smart enough to fall for GNAFL. I'm not defending fan wars, but I've backed losing teams before. Winners are more fun. ;D I like Kris Allen :D, but he doesn't have the "IT" that Adam does. He is not fascinating, he is "just" Kris Allen. If I had liked Kris more than Adam, it would go the same way. I'm a bad fan, not competitive. It's the guy himself that's got to get the gigs and stuff. If he doesn't, for sure RCA would invest more to the other guy that shows he has the drive in himself. I still would like my guy, though! :D About recognition - I'd feel sorry for those who don't get it how fabulous this guy is but at the same time would admit that people have so different tastes that it cannot be helped. Winning team - I'd never go for such just because it is the winning one, I go for those I like . I've never been good at doing something just because it is the way all others/most do, I need a better, personal reason. Bad fan, not invested enough - am I revealing too much now . LOL.

either way, get used to the fanwars if you plan on following Adam... he'll be be the object of many a bitter disgruntled fan's frustration and bitterness and it will get worse the more successful be becomes. Earlier I went to the "Prince-Covers" article and saw that there were around 50 comments. I wanted to read other peoples opinion and started reading the comments. Half of them were like "Adam is not a songwriter, therefore cannot have an opinion", "Adam cannot sing" blabla..and Adam fans intervened etc. Adam is beyond idol now. He is invited to industry events, is getting obviously respect from his colleagues, his opinions matters and is making headlines with his facial hair. IMO fans of other Idols who thought (hoped) his 15 minutes are over soon, realize this now and it hurts. If Adams new album will be more successful than Cooks or Allens new CDs the butthurt will be epic.....! 8-) Yep, it has to be crushing and the trolls DO love saying the exact opposite of the truth to fire things up. Reading the ASCAP coverage was so exciting. One thing in particular was about the Kobalt deal. He has one; Ke$ha does not apparently, as the phrasing from Kobalt's tweet would indicate. She has writing cred on a number of hit singles, yet doesn't have that level of publishing deal. (She may have a different one that is as good or that she was committed to before, but still that is an elite thing Adam has as a songwriter.) Heh, I hope the commenters brought that one up.
