Bamafan had enough charge on her phone to call to give us an update. (She tried Needacoke, but couldn't reach her. We have already talked, so I'm not surprising her!)
Our connection was not the greatest in the world and she was talking very fast. I didn't interrupt her for clarification because she had little battery, so I may have misunderstood a few things. But here is the gist of what she said.
First of all big hugs
to everyone for their concern. She is fine, but very tired from the physical labor of cleanup.
The damage to her house included damage to the roof and water in her sunroom which ran onto her hardwood floors and down into her basement. Her deck was blown off. All 36 windows in her house were blown out. Her dining room walls are covered in leaves and debris. Her neighbor's trees were all over her driveway. Her Jeep was demolished and she said her Mustang was parked in the basement, but the force of the wind damaged the garage door in the basement and the back window of the car was broken out. However, in all that, she feels lucky because her neighbors' houses on one side and in the back will have to be leveled. She said it's like the tornado just skipped over her.
Her mom's house, which is empty, also suffered damage as did some rental property they own.
Her husband's business did not fare well. It was completely destroyed and she said he is concerned about locating good records for the insurance company. Typically, on a Wednesday afternoon, he would have been in the store, but he had a routine medical procedure done that morning and was home. Otherwise, he would have been in the store with possibly disastrous results.
She has no power and is not sure when she will get it. She said all the power poles in the path of the tornado have to be replaced before power will be restored. Cable and internet will be after that. She is hoping that there may be a wifi hotspot set up so that she can get online. She does have water, but only cold so showers are not much fun right now! She said they are eating a lot of beanie-weanies!
I asked if I could get in to see/help her and she said not yet, but hoped that they would relax that in the near future. I hope so too.
She promised that when she gets another charge on her cell, she will call again, maybe next week.
I asked what we as a group could do and she said, at the moment, just keep her in your thoughts. I asked about donations and she assured me that financially they were fine and did not need any help.
AND, the Adam collection is fine. There is one little nick in the m/g picture, but it is barely noticeable! She will survive!
Those of you who have met bamafan know that she has an irrepressible spirit. Other than being physically tired, that spirit seems intact.
Once again, you are an awesome group.
Your care and concern is uplifting.
If any of you would like to send her a card, if you will pm me, I will give you my address and see that she gets the cards.
