Any expert insights into why the Top 40 chart has 33 of 50 songs with negative bullets today? 9 of the Top 10!! So weird!! I don't know specifically today but I did a quick spin total off of Kworbs site from today and last Wednesday. The top 25 songs this week are spinning 212487 times The top 25 songs of last week spun 210375 Between last week and this week Wiz Khalifa (See You Again) gained 3049 spins and is spinning 2000 more times than last week's number 1 song. Things are tight. But more specific to today, it's probably M5 (3021 new spins) and TS (2634 new spins) that are putting pressure on all songs even though they haven't made it to the top 25 yet. With M5, TS, and Wiz pulling 9000 more spin slots than last week there simply is no place for other songs to go but down.

Is there an agreement upon release that they get all these spins and then it calms down?

I'm going to agree with Patti that the HDD building chart is useless and since we are trying to deal with real numbers that can be tracked then it's not relevant for this thread. If you can figure out spin numbers etc from it then that would be something else but I'm not seeing it. OK UNCLE!!!! I will no longer be tempted to post on HDD (whispers: so why does it exist???????) Don't know. I'm tracking weekly Pop and HAC on this site www.radiowavemonitor.com/top_adds_format.aspx?ID=4 but it hardly matches up with anything either. They say part of their weighting is with streaming so we get better graphical numbers just measuring the streaming directly. But I still like seeing it move up even so, so I just track it. And it's weekly not daily or hourly so much better for seeing trends. Don't know if you've checked out my google spreadsheet but you can see what I chart here : docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CY93U5HQ3BZ95hupvY_o1GrzTC-dIDvmPPu7AdmJKlU/edit?usp=sharing

Important info from the News Thread. The number of US album releases from major labels is way down. Album sales are also way down -- started to decline in 2002. Now running below 5 million units a week in the US -- almost every week. [10 million used to be considered the floor.] The total number of albums released in the US is also way down. It is still a huge number, over 50K -- but it was once much bigger, In 2008...released in the US: 115K total albums 6K sold more than 1K copies 1.5K sold more than 10K 110 sold more than 250K It will be a miracle if 40 albums released in 2015 sell over 250K units in the US this **. Kelly Clarkson's latest album (released Feb 27, 2015) has "only" sold 153,000 copies in the first 2 months -- it might get to 200,000 someday but will not hit 250K unless some dynamic changes. Wikipedia: "Opening with 83,000 copies of traditional album sales, Piece by Piece debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart with 97,000 units, which included track equivalent albums and streaming equivalent albums." That is a #1 album in 2015.

The little drop was fully expected given the two national treasures (TS and Maroon) skyrocketing... If I am concerned about anything at all at this point it would be the lack of Twitter growth. I don't understand it at all frankly. Twitter is interesting - about 1170 followers a day which is great but nothing to write home about. www.socialbakers.com/statistics/twitter/profiles/detail/46576295-adamlambert especially while comparing some other entertainment celebrities who currently have the samish number of followers. Keith Urban - 2000 a day, Shawn Mendes - 3000, Missy Elliot - 6000 But Adam has been on Twitter for 6 years and Twitter itself is not growing (see link) so new followers have to come from those already on Twitter and they've already had 6 years to decide. He's not salacious, he doesn't put others down, he doesn't get into fights, he doesn't swear. ie, he's not really very interesting on Twitter. Twitter new users is almost at 0% growth - techcrunch.com/2015/02/05/heres-twitters-slowing-user-growth-in-one-chart/I can vouch that when I sub in high schools there are very few students who have even heard of Twitter. They snapchat and instagram.

It is mostly in 300-400/day... it's been there for a very long time. twittercounter.com/adamlambert/weeklyYup, I know, kids are not into Twitter, my two don't use it either...but, some 70 mil follow KP. Who are they? 28 mil follow Demi. Who are they? (Actually, it is mind boggling that 70 mil entities would be interested in what KP has to say...but that's another conversation...) I also noticed that there is no "push" to have more Twitter followers, (like "follow me on Twitter" type talk), so I am not sure it is of any importance nowerdays...may be our experts in marketing /market research could shed some light)

Looks like I was looking at the wrong graph. I need to add instagram followers and spotify followers to my spreadsheet. I'm watching youtube subscribers and google+ followers and soundcloud followers. It is very fragmented marketing which is probably why radio still holds so much sway.
