3/17/2009 American Idol Season 8 – Top 11 – Performance – VIDEO Adam Lambert – “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash – Adam also gets a pimp chat with Ryan. Adam calls Travis “a gentleman”… He says he “found” a different version. (inspired by Dilana from Rockstar Supernova’s middle eastern flavored version) Travis seems a little taken aback by Adam, and not crazy about the arrangement he chose. Peeps are either going to love or hate this. I love it, because it’s so out there and so out of place on the Idol stage. I’m imagining heads exploding all across America. Adam is riveting. And while the arrangement is OTT, the vocals are reigned in. He’s got the stage presence, plus incredible vocals and phrasing. Very strange, but in a good way. Kara says, “That’s very interesting. All a little strange. But I kinda liked it. It left me confused and happy.” Paula says, “You are true to who you are as an artist. I loved the sounds. You’re raising your own bar each week.” Simon says, “What the hell was that? Sorry, but I would never go to Nashville if I was you. There are lots of people throwing their TV sets out the window. Indulgent. Horrific.” Ryan says, “It’s current it’s young it’s hot. 9 Inch nails doing a country song.” 1-866-436-5705

3/21/2009 Top 11 iTunes Performance Review – It’s Country Y’all Adam Lambert – Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash – While Adam’s performance of “Ring of Fire” was over-the-top, his vocals were not. This week, he pulled back the heavy metal screaming to give a skilled and subtle vocal performance. Ditto the recorded version. Adam slithers around the notes, using his dazzling falsetto to great effect. I’m totally hearing the Jeff Buckley comparisons. Me likes. - Tunes

3/25/2009 American Idol Season 8 – Top 10 – Performance – VIDEO Adam Lambert – Tracks of my Tears by – Smokey Robinson and the Miracles – Adam is really nervous! Smokey says he kept it tender, and sweet, and soft. Adam sits center stage with an acoustic guitar and upright bass, and a guy sitting on a box keeping time. This is very beautiful, emotional. Adam sings it mostly in his falsetto. The vocals are killer. Adam proves he’s more than a showman–he can truly inhabit a song. Adam, yet again, takes the audience to a completely different place–a new wonderful surprise every week. Like Christmas! The audience goes wild–Smokey is in the audience giving him a huge standing O. Kara says, “One of the best performances of the night…you showed artistry on that stage.” Paula says, “You have that instinct to have that element of surprise…you are exciting.” Simon says, “It was THE best performance of the night…you were able to sum up everthing we said tonight…you have emerged to me as a star.”Randy said, “You showed you could sing such tender moments…unbelievably hot.” 1-866-436-5708 3/26/2009 American idol Top 10 Wrap-up and Predictions. The best performance by far was Adam Lambert’s sensitive, heart-rending version of “Tracks of My Tears”. Adam is playing this game well, after last week’s audacious “Ring of Fire” polarized the nation, Adam came back to show us he’s not just an empty showman–he can truly infuse a tune with feeling and emotion. I’m loving this guy, ’cause he’s bringing the surprises every single week.

3/29/2009 Top 10 iTunes Performance Review – Motown Karaoke! Adam Lambert – “Tracks of My Tears” by Smokey Robinson – A recording of Adam’s stripped down arrangement from the show would have been nice. But I can’t complain–Adam still manages to put his own stamp on this classic backing track. His vocal here is so sensational–passionate, assured and compelling–I’ll be putting this version on my iPod. Interesting: Adam removes all pronouns and references to gender in the second verse… Definitely the best of the lot. - iTunes

3/31/2009 American Idol Season 8 – Top 9 – Performance – VIDEO Adam Lambert – “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry – He sang a soft song last week…now he wants to pick up the pace, and make an old song sound current. This is a great vocal, but it doesn’t sound very current to me. Adam is back to the heavy-metal high notes–the song sounds more 80′s hair band than current rock and roll. I don’t understand why he didn’t pick a new song. “True genius,” says Paula. She’s comparing him to Mick Jagger and other R&R greats. Simon says at least he’s not Karaoke…you are original. Gah. this is the kind of performance Simon typically slams. “You are definitely in the star zone,” says Randy. Kara says, “Every week, I can’t wait to get to the show and see what you’re going to do.” Then she mentions studio…57? Isn’t that 54? But at least Kara can count this week. 1-866-436-5708

4/3/2009 Top 9 iTunes Performance Review – It’s a Free For All! Adam Lambert – “Play That Funky Music White Boy” by Wild Cherry – I’m back in Erie, PA, in a tiny dorm room, dancing my face off. Seriously, I am loving this recorded version of “Play That Funky Music” even more than the live version. He still doesn’t sound current to me, but I’m thinking Adam could score some club hits. – iTunes

4/7/2009 Bill O’Reilly Outs Adam Lambert. Sort Of… – VIDEOOh that Bill O’Reilly, he’s always on the cutting edge of Pop Culture topics! You know those pictures of Adam Lambert kissing guys, the ones that circulated on the web, like a month ago? O’Reilly finally decided to make hay of them on his conservative FOX talkfest, The O’Reilly Factor, last night. Interestingly, the two blond republican chicks he had on the panel couldn’t stop gushing about Adam. Neither think the photos will make a difference to the show’s outcome. Although, one of blonds actually believes that American Idol is about “sheer talent” and at the end of the day, that’s what folks vote for. Alrighty then! O’Reilly flashes the pictures (nice plug for VFTW!), but cropped versions. Let’s titillate the middle-American masses and not have their heads explode, the thinking goes, I’m sure.

4/7/2009 American Idol Season 8 – Top 8 – Performance – VIDEO Adam Lambert – “Mad World” by Tears for Fears – Adam likes to play dress-up. Think he’s hiding anything? Heh. Adam is back in “dialed back” mode. Just Adam in a chair with a hand held mike. Oooh, he’s making some nice vocal choices here. Haunting. Ethereal. A very cool interpretation. Nearly flawless. (it’s a little sharp in the first half–quibbling!) Simon gives Adam a standing ovation. And that’s all they have time for, no other judges comments. Bruce Gowers, the director, needs to be fired. I swear. Adam’s version is similar to the Gary Jules version from the movie Donnie Darko. Check it out HERE. 1-866-436-5708 4/8/2009 American Idol Top 8 Wrap Up And Predictions There’s been talk on the blog about Adam Lambert getting prime performance spots nearly every week of the competition. Last night, at least, Adam’s performance was pimp-spot worthy. The producers can and do use the pimp spot to help contestants, but it’s not the only consideration. The producers need to close up the show with something that will keep viewers from picking up their remotes. Making performance order fair and ending the show with say, Scott MacIntyre, who’s never had the last spot, would’ve had viewers diving for that clicker. Not something the network wants, it’s safe to guess. I’m not saying Adam hasn’t been pimped–the special lighting and Simon’s standing O might have been a bit much–although, I think Simon was using shorthand ’cause he didn’t have time for a proper critique. There’s more than one way to pimp a contestant. The irony, of course, is that lots of peeps missed Adam’s performance due to the inability of director Bruce Gower to pace a live show correctly. (And it isn’t the first time–both the Top 13 and Wild Card shows ran over–it’s inexcusable) So, in the end, no clear advantage for Adam. His near-perfect performance was the highlight of the night. No other performance would have closed the show better. Maybe they’ll make time to run Adam’s performance in it’s entirety tonight for the folks who missed it. I can tell you, I got a ton of thank you emails (and traffic!) from people who had been desperately looking for an online video of Adam’s performance.

4/10/2009 Top 8 iTunes Performance Review – Just Say No to Strings Adam Lambert – Mad World by Tears for Fears - The arrangement is wisely kept simple here–just piano, a few strings and some reverb. Just like the live performance, the recording is gorgeous, haunting and Adam’s moving interpretation unforgettable. – iTunes

4/14/2009 Adam Lambert Was on the Short List for The Broadway Production of Spiderman Cannot embed Video just a screen shot It looks like Adam Lambert is going to have a busy career once Idol is over, whether he wins or not. According to MTV (read article HERE), Adam was in consideration for the lead role in the upcoming Broadway production of Spiderman, according to casting director Bernie Telsey. Telsey says he’d gladly consider Adam for “a bunch of shows,” especially now that he has national name recognition.

4/14/2009 American Idol Season 8 – Top 7 – Performance – VIDEO Adam Lambert – Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf – Easy Rider – Q says Adam is the real deal. Crazy rock star Adam is back. Interesting arrangement with some minor chord/electronic elements thrown into the chorus. Weird harmonizing with the background singers. Man I really don’t like his rock wail, but he’s not overusing it. Except there. Heh. Still, he’s totally entertaining on the Idol stage. Last, big crazy rock wail note! He really re-worked that chorus. The purists probably won’t like it. Paula is cheering and jumping out of her seat. “You dare to dance in the path of greatness…you’re one of the bravest contestants I ever witnessed” she said. Simon says, “Vocally incredible…it was a little bit like watching the Rocky Horror Musical in parts.” He goes on to say that some will like it, some will hate it–it won’t be as popular as “Mad World” 1-866-436-5703 4/15/2009 American Idol Top 7 Wrap Up And Predictions I found Adam Lambert’s “Born to be Wild” to be a mixed bag. Not sure I’m liking the spooky minor chords in the chorus, and Adam and the background singers sounded off. Although I realize the heavy metal scream is a standard covention in hard rock, I think the wail dates him, even within the very current electro-beat arrangement of the song. Suddenly I’m thinking hair bands instead of techno. Still, no one can touch Adam’s performance skills.
