Not happy with RS magazine right now. Last issue (Grateful Dead text across cover) had the article about Adam's change in direction, and that article was fine. This issue (Girls Gone Wild on the cover) has the album review. Three star, text kind of alright, a bit condescending, especially critical about the lyrics, which Brittany Spanos seems to find ridiculous. But what really bugs me: Right next to it, a much larger article about Nate Ruess' album, 3 1/2 stars, with everything written that should be written for Adam (vocals, vocals, vocals, many Queen and Freddie references, and a really nice review by Jon Dolan).... p 58 and 59, for those with print magazine. Now, trying to figure out how to find this online. Anyhow, sorry for being the bearer of not so great news....but obviously, this magazine has a real and substantial circulation. Only consolation that can be said. RS magazine also dissed Queen for years and years, and ....we know how that went. That is a bummer, especially after their 4-star review of Trespassing. And double bummer about the Nate Ruess review being right there next to it. I guess we need to just remember that these reviews are subjective - too bad Adam didn't get the John Dolan review. :( Well.....Crap! That really pisses me off. Was so looking forward to having at least a 3 1/2 stars. Yes, too bad Adam didn't get a different reviewer. Stampsgal.....It was a TOH Album review.

I'm having problem with the site. I forgot my password, so I did the "forgot password" thing and got the email, click on the link and typed in new password (twice), then SAVE. And it asked me to enter my "current password" and new password again. I'm confused. Did this 3 times and I give up now.
Check up at the top of the page to see if you're actually signed in. There was a box near the top that says something about a 503 error (whatever that is) but that your information has been saved. You shouldn't need to keep re-entering your password. Your password was most probably saved, and you are in. Try to log out and login with the password you had entered.

LOL I think I am voting when other people are 'cause I can't get the square to go orange. It is a good activity when you are on a boring conference call. Feel I am productive. Now at 68% But this one is probably going to be a pain in the butt. Not happy about the news on the RS review.

Disappointing news about RS. The 4 star review of TP didn't seems to have a possitive affect on sales so maybe a 3 star review won't have an effect either!

She sounds like a too cool for school kind of person. And she loves boy bands so WTF with criticizing lyrics?!

The review is for the album and by itself it is a medium review, kind of what would fit with a 3-star critique. Certainly is not all bad. But the juxta-position to NR does make it painful. And obviously, until I hear either album, I cannot speak to it, but based on the first singles of both, a tad surprising. The reviewer did like 'Ghost Town'. Even calls it excellent. But, clearly she does not like the lyrics on various tracks, and most of her critique focuses on that. The whole review is only one paragraph long. First addresses the change in direction, mentions radio-friendly deep house, and then the lyrics.
ETA: Yes, print edition. And no, I do not feel gutted, and I think and hope, Adam does not either. Disappointed, sure. Gutted, nope, never. Adam stands by his album, MM&S clearly thought highly of it, WB was clearly happy to support it, I am not going to get beaten down over the opinion of one person. But just like an unfair evaluation by Simon or something, is it a slap in the face, sure. But if you believe in your own work, you need to move forward. And just like someone above said, if a great review last time did not lift him up, when he well deserved to, who knows whether this critique really will matter. In a week from now, we will all know more.
Adam does tend to have a sense of humor that can be self-deprecating or dorky. The two examples of lyrics that are used in the review, seem to me exactly of that kind. Maybe, this reviewer has no humor, or does not get Adam's kind of jokes. Reviews are arbitrary. The success of the album will be determined by word of mouth, not by one review.

Many of the worst rated albums are huge hits and many of the critically acclaimed are ignored. This review will not influence the vast majority one way or the other. NOW, folks staying off their website with their overprotective comments, that would actually be useful!
