I've been trying to figure out what it is about "Velcro" that bothers me, yet I like everything else about the song. Simplistic/campy/silly lyrics in music is something I generally love (I absolutely love "thingses" ), but the overall feeling of the song is more serious and intense that the word doesn't fit for me (more contrived than clever and taking self too seriously I guess).
Here are some other simplistic, silly lyrics (although I'd argue that they are genius in their simplicity), written by Smokey Robinson, that always make me smile:
You've got a smile so bright, you know you could have been a candle
I'm holding you so tight, you know you could have been a handle
The way you swept me off my feet, you know you could have been a broom
The way you smell so sweet, you know you could have been some perfume
Well, you could have been anything that you wanted to
And I can tell, the way you do the things you do
As pretty as you are, you know you could have been a flower
If good looks was a minute, you know that you could be an hour
The way you stole my heart, you know you could have been a crook
And baby you're so smart, you know you could have been a schoolbook
You made my heart so rich, you know you could have been some money
And baby you're so sweet, you know you could have been some honeyYou really swept me off my feet, you made my life complete
You made my life so bright, you make me feel alright
Or country music is filled with them . Here's one that I've always been fond of:
Yes, she's my lady luck
Hey, I'm her wild card man
Together we're buildin' up a real hot hand
We live out in the country
Hey, she's my little queen of the South
Yea, we're two of a kind
Workin' on a full house
