I know exactly what toys you're talking about, Durberville, and haha, yep.
I have to say (and I'm with Bridgey, #lovethemoo), it sounds exactly like a cow to me, and would have had no one ever mentioned moos. However, it also sounds just like some random electronic noise popping up to add a little rhythmic umph to dance music. I can exist in both those worlds at once, without finding the sound the least bit distracting. I think it fits in beautifully. I love the idea of making music with noise, not notes, or that notes are just a form of noise. And I love the way the sound works to disrupt things in ALN, which has such a pretty, melodic patina overall. (the one thing it doesn't sound like to me at all, sorry Adam, is "yeah," lol.)
I do see that Adam may not be thrilled with the whole moo thing, which is understandable, though he's keeping his sense of humor about it, I think. An important thing to remember, especially for Adam, is that the fans laughing about the "moo" still love it, they're not criticizing the effect, in fact, they're bringing it up precisely because they like it. It's possible to hear the moo and like the moo. You know these fans would never pick on anything they saw as a flaw or weakness. Selfishly, I hope it doesn't bother Adam too much, because, while I love a whole bunch of the songs on TOH, ALN is my absolute favorite (maybe favorite Adam song ever). I would hate for this to sour him on the song even a little bit, because it's my hold-out hope for an eventual single, after TOH and yeah, ok, maybe Rumors (can't get into that song for some reason, though I admit I did wake up with the chorus stuck in my head this morning, after just two listens).
Totally separate topic, as we approach release week: Sorry if this ground has already been covered many times, but I see Q3 popping in and out, and maybe she (or one of you other numbers gurus) has an answer to a couple of questions that are nagging me. 1) I seem to remember that months ago, as we were warming up the gears to ready our Adam support machine, we were warned that the system had been changed, and that album pre-orders would no longer be counted towards 1st-week sales. Then the big push for pre-ordering came from up above/Shoshanna/etc., and we seem to have decided that this wasn't true/wasn't a worry for some reason, and all went ahead and bought the album. Was that ever resolved? Will our advance purchases count for Billboard week 1? Because, short of gifting, I assume almost all Adam fans (myself included) have preordered the album now, at least once, and that we'll therefor be limited in what we can do in terms of actual week one purchasing. 2) Relatedly, how hard will it be for TOH (the album) to climb to #1, or somewhere up there, on the Itunes album charts, if we've already all done our pre-ordering, or does iTunes somehow take that pre-ordering into account (I know industry, etc., watches iTunes, but more importantly, a high place on the iTunes charts might attract casual/curious buyers. Not panicking or anything--just curious--and of course I, like everyone, would love for Adam to get another Billboard #1 album!
