Sorry, that it took me so long to write my recap about meeting Adam in Hamburg, I had so many things to do in the last days,
but now I finally finished it!
Here it is …!
When we heard that Adam would also come to Germany on his promo-tour through Europe, of course we immediately thought that we wanted to go and try to see him somewhere, if possible! So we were very happy when we heard that he should come to Berlin. A few days later we heard that it was also planned that he visited Hamburg, which is only 100 km away from Kiel, so of course we changed our original plans and decided to drive to Hamburg instead! Fortunately Shoshanna tweeted that Adam would already arrive on Sunday and so we looked up all the flights from Helsinki to Hamburg in the internet before and found out that there were only two flights on Sunday, one in the early morning and one in the evening. So we thought that it had to be the flight in the evening (because Adam surely wanted to spend some more time in Helsinki …!
) and decided to travel to Hamburg already on Sunday at noon, so that we could go to the airport in the evening to welcome him! I was already in contact with another German Glambert and she also wanted to go there with some friends of her. (She spent several hours in a bus to travel to Hamburg from the Ruhr area in the early morning, then back home in the evening to go to school the next morning and after school she immediately travelled the even longer way to Berlin to see Adam there again the next day, wow!!!)
And so we went to Hamburg by train and drove to the airport in the evening at 6 p.m. because the arrival of the plane was scheduled for 6.30 p.m.! The three girls were already there, they had gone to the airport already in the morning, just in case that Adam would arrive with the first plane from Helsinki and had waited at the airport for over 11 hours!!! Shortly after we arrived, another young woman from Hamburg joined our small group, we already knew her from our trip to Helsinki in 2013, so we were very happy to meet each other again! And so our group of five “girls” and my DH waited directly in front of the arrival gate for Adam! Of course we were all very excited
and our knees got weak, especially after we read on the scoreboard that the plane from Helsinki had finally landed! We planned that we wanted to sing a line from “Ghost Town” for Adam when he would come out of the gate but we still had to wait for almost an hour until the passengers of that flight came out, OMG, the tension grew with every minute!
And then one of the girls suddenly saw Adam and we all started to sing “And now I know my heart is a Ghost Town …!” for him and shouted “Welcome to Hamburg, Adam!”
He seemed very surprised and also really touched, I don’t think that he expected any fans to be there. He thanked us and while he still had to walk a few meters behind a barrier to the gate, we asked him if he would take pictures with us and he said “Sure!” and stopped when he was outside the gate area. (BTW, Leah was with him and there was also an unknown guy in the background who cared about Adam’s suitcase, maybe someone from the airport?!) And then we all could take our pictures with Adam without any rush! (Here are my two pics again ...!)
He also hugged everyone (I was so nervous that I forgot to ask for a hug, NOOO!!!
), signed patiently all the CD covers, etc. that we had brought with us and took his time for everyone of us. During the whole time he was so sweet and friendly and he showed interest in everyone and listened to what we told him.
Three of the girls had brought some gifts for him, haha, one girl found a small plushie cow in a shop in the airport and gave it to him as a joke because of the “Moo!” in ALN, lol! He laughed and said “Girls, it’s not a “Moo!”, it’s a Yeah!”, haha!
I was happy because I could also give him a “thank-you-letter” that I had written before, I hope he had some time to read it in his hotel later in the evening!
After several minutes, when he had taken pics with everyone, signed everything and talked with everyone, he had to go and he thanked us again and said goodbye to us! Then he walked away to the exit and we couldn’t believe our luck and started to squee and hug each other because we were so happy!!!
OMG, I never thought that he would really take so much time to care about everyone of us, I think we were that lucky because he hadn’t scheduled anything for that evening, so maybe he wasn’t under such a big time pressure?! Anyway, we couldn’t believe it, it was still unreal for us that we had really met Adam and so we stood together for a long time to chat about everything again and again, lol! BTW, my DH was so sweet to take many pics during the whole meeting, but he didn’t want a photo together with Adam, lol!
When we still stood in the hall of the airport to rave about Adam and how sweet and friendly he was, many of the people who were also there and waited with us the whole time to pick up some relatives or friends from a flight, came to us afterwards to ask, who the person was, that we had waited for! We told them about Adam and they all were very impressed how friendly and down-to-earth he was, especially after we explained to them how popular he is worldwide! Of course we informed them about his collaboration with Queen (… when we mentioned that, some guys remembered that they heard about him and the tour!) and Adam’s own music (… they also all knew WWFM, when we sang the refrain!) and told them to check out some videos of Adam to hear what an extraordinarily good singer he is and they all wanted to do it at home! YAY!!!
After a sleepless night (I was still so excited!)
in our very nice hotel in the city center of Hamburg, we got up early next morning to drive to the NDR area, where also their radio-station for younger listeners “N-Joy Radio” is located. When we arrived, we already saw some girls standing there in front of the main-entrance to the area. We didn’t know most of them, but two of our German Glambert-friends, who we already met in Helsinki, were also already there! And so we said “Hello!” to everyone and over time our small group grew until we were 13 people, 11 “girls” and two DH’s, lol! The girls who were there earlier than us had already asked the two doormen if we were allowed to enter the NDR area later, so that we could wait directly in front of the building where “N-Joy Radio” is located, but they said we weren’t allowed and laughed about us!
Of course, from time to time we all tried to convince them again, that we urgently had to get into the NDR-area
, but they stayed adamant, lol!
Besides we still didn’t know the exact time when Adam would arrive, everyone told us another arrival-time, one of them said 10 a.m., then we were told 11 a.m., so we had to wait and see! The next thing that was unclear, was, if he would arrive at the main entrance where we waited, because there was also a second entrance to the area from another street that was nearer to the “N-Joy Radio” building!
So we waited there the whole morning without knowing if we would be able to catch a glimpse of him after all! From time to time cars arrived at the gate and the doormen let them in, one time we wondered if it was the van with Adam because it was black and the windows were also dark. As we got to know later, it was actually Adam!
While we waited for many hours in front of the NDR, some of the girls sent tweets to N-Joy or called them again to ask if Adam had already arrived and if we were allowed to get in or if Adam could come out to us on his way back, after the interview was over, but their answer was always “No!”.
They told us that he had such a busy schedule that unfortunately he couldn’t come to us. Of course we were very disappointed
but we didn’t give up our hope and decided to try again! So we took two pics of our group in front of the NDR sign (... and my DH behind it, lol!) and sent them to N-Joy and to Adam via twitter again!
And suddenly one of the girls got a phone-call from an N-Joy employee, who told her, that she was the only one who was allowed to come in for a short meeting with Adam and that she would be picked up at the entrance in a few minutes!
OMG, that girl suddenly looked as white as a ghost because she was so shocked, I thought she would faint! Of course we were all happy for her and congratulated her.
Five minutes later a friendly young woman from N-Joy came to the gate to pick the girl up and they went to the N-Joy building. After about half an hour the girl came back, she was very happy because she could take a picture with Adam and she was allowed to sit quietly in the room during the interview, yay! And then the employee suddenly told us, that, although Adam didn’t have much time, they would take the main entrance on their way out in a few minutes, so that we could at least wave to Adam when he drove by in the van! We thought, it was okay, at least better than nothing and hoped that he would open the window, so that we could see him a little bit better in the dark car.
Another half an hour later we saw the black van driving from the N-Joy building back to the main entrance, and so we quickly built a row on the grass at the side of the gateway, so that everyone could see well and wave to Adam when he drove by. Then the car passed the gate and … suddenly it stopped, the door opened and … surprise!!! … Adam jumped out and stood directly in front of us!!!
We were all so paralyzed of shock that nobody had the courage to make a step towards him, so he stood there with his arms open and laughed and asked if nobody wanted to come to him to take a pic!
Of course our shock ended quickly and we went to him one after another to take our photos with him! Wow, he looked so gorgeous in his suit with his perfect hair and he smelled so good!!!
And, exactly like already on the evening before at the airport, he took his time to take funny pics and talk and joke with everyone and sign things for all of us, so he spent several minutes with us in the gateway! He even signed the arm of a girl, who wanted to go to a tattoo parlor immediately afterwards to tattoo his name on her arm! (She already had a lot of tattoos on her arms, which he of course liked very much!!!) And after every of the girls had her turn, it was actually HIM who asked if we wanted to make some group photos of all of us together! Needless to say … of course we wanted, lol!!!
So we all stood together on the grass, made the peace-sign and my DH and the employee of N-Joy took several photos of all of us!
After that Adam thanked us and said that he had to go now! We all waved him good-bye and then he drove away in the black van! Afterwards we all couldn’t believe our luck, it seemed that it was really not planned that way from the beginning on but that our persistence to send tweets and photos of us to the radio-station and to him, while he was there for the interview, had paid off!
Until today we still ask ourselves if it was Adam himself who changed his plans and decided to meet us fans for a few minutes or if it was the idea of the radio-station?! It would be truly interesting to know …!
Anyway, of course we all were very happy and excited and lay in each others arms and squeed and laughed and talked about what had just happened.
We stood there for a long time, watching our pics and exchanging phone-numbers, twitter-names, email-addresses and facebook-account names, so that we could stay in contact and mail each other our photos. Afterwards we went to the “Hard Rock Café” at the Landungsbrücken in Hamburg to have lunch there together with some of the girls, it was really nice to have some more hours together to chat about everything that we had experienced together!
All in all I have to say that both groups of Glamberts, the small group of girls at the airport on the first evening and the bigger and very diverse group in front of the NDR the next day, were very sweet! Everyone of them was so friendly and open, that we immediately liked each other and really hope to see each other again one day at a concert!
Oh, BTW, one funny observation at the end before I really stop (I promise, lol!!!
): At the airport Adam didn’t look that tall like I had imagined it before but only one day later, when I saw him again, he looked much taller, although he also wore shoes with flat soles! How can that be?
(Maybe he has a hidden twin brother and they take turns at the events? Hahaha!!!)
This was my (as always much too long!
) recap from Hamburg! Back home in Kiel again, I still can’t believe that I really met Adam twice only a few days ago, OMG, but fortunately I have pics to prove it, lol!!!
I waited over five years for this moment, almost lost my hope that I would ever meet him, because I always had bad luck in the last years after concerts, etc., but now finally it was my turn, yay!!! I’m so happy and thankful for it!!!
P.S.: Another funny little anecdote for all the Germans here at Atop:
While we waited excitedly for Adam at the airport, suddenly the door opened and Oliver Geissen (a German TV moderator!) came out, haha, we already had to laugh about that coincidence!
Five minutes later it was Kai Pflaume (also a German TV moderator!) who arrived in Hamburg and walked by directly in front of us, lol!
And the next morning, in front of the NDR, suddenly Reinhold Beckmann (a German TV-moderator and talk-master!) came out of the entrance and looked at us a little bit irritated, maybe he thought, that we were there for him?! LOL!!!
