www.nytimes.com/2015/06/16/arts/music/review-adam-lambert-tones-down-excess-on-the-original-high.html?_r=0Review: Adam Lambert Tones Down Excess on ‘The Original High’By JON CARAMANICAJUNE 15, 2015 ADAM LAMBERT “The Original High”(Warner Bros.) excerpt: Maybe, to succeed, Mr. Lambert had to find a way to submit to something greater. And on “The Original High,” his third full-length record, he’s managed just that. The album is executive produced by Max Martin and Shellback, the Swedish pop mercenaries with abiding love of 1980s flash and 1990s dance music verve. They have found in Mr. Lambert an ability to be vague. Perversely, that’s set him free. “Ghost Town” is perhaps his best single to date. At the first chorus, it becomes an early-’90s club thumper, and Mr. Lambert doesn’t try to best the beat. Instead, he becomes a house diva, singing with precision and ambition but in service of the song. The strategic restraint continues on “The Original High,” and even into “Another Lonely Night,” which could have come from the “Top Gun” soundtrack. He sings with particular intensity on “Lucy,” a grand-scaled 1980s rock-style epic, but even here he lets the guitar have the loudest word. LMAO "He came in second, losing to the vocal rice cake Kris Allen, in what felt like a referendum on the unimaginativeness of the American reality-contest voting public." best description of that whole situation ever. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

The score is a weighted average of the reviews that Metacritic accepts. Not all reviews make it. It will change every time a new review affects the calculation. 74 is really good so far only one mixed review and three favorable. FYE ended up with a 71 when all was said and done and Trespassing ended up with a 66.

I clicked on new releases on the website you linked and that seems to be a decent score. There are only 4 reviews so far and so it will change as more reviews come in and I think there will be more. Just because I couldn't help myself, Sam Smith has a 62 with 24 critics reviews. So obviously, it does not take high scores to have a blockbuster album. I wish the metascore was predictive because James Taylor has a 59 so far and Nat Ruess does not apparently have enough reviews to warrant a score.

Well thank you very much (can't find a sarcastic smiley!). I'm not entirely sure that I wished to know I have a "possible pitch detection deficit" and that I scored in the 0.0 percentile. My disability notwithstanding, I still know a damn fine voice when I hear it!! Ooops. Didn't mean it to be a downer. But it goes to show you that you don't have to be a musical scholar or have an exceptional ear to enjoy music and good voices. This test only checks your ability to perceive slight differences in pitch. Not your ability to hear rhythm, tone, emotions, beat, themes, lyrics, or instrumentation. Or your appreciation of Adam's exceptional voice. So turn up the volume and dance along, cry along, sing along. ENJOY! I did the rhythm test too....which is much harder than the tonal adaptive one, I think....but I got the exact same score in both of them...top 28% in the tonal and 72% correct in the rhythm ...so pretty good but not genius fwiw. Interesting that I found it much easier to hear flat notes than sharp...is that the norm, Cassie? In fact I felt almost like I was cheating by the end as if I did not hear it flat, I assumed it was sharp...and was correct...but I can't really claim that I could always 'hear' the sharp...

Not sure if I am posting correctly, i have only done this a few times during the QAL Merriweather post concert, but have been a regular lurker. Love all the TOH buildup and the whole album! Today my 23yo daughter texted me and said she won the IHeart Radio preview concert tickets tomorrow in NY! I signed her up as she lives in NY and loves Adam. She is soooo excited and I am too for her! Just had to share
