Talon added a late comment to Saturday's thread that I thought was well- thought out. He is addressing the question of whether Queen fans are apt to buy TOH. "I do think Adam won many fans over during the tours but fans of him, not necessarily his music. It's more that Adam won their respect, but they aren't going to switch their musical tastes. I'm sure a HUGE amount of fans gained respect for Montserrat Caballe during the Barcelona album, but the fans of Freddie were mostly rock fans and weren't going to start buying opera albums en masse. If Adam had done a more rock album, he would have had a better shot at retaining Queen fans for his music...but he wants the pop ring so it is what it is  " Very late to respond to this but in a couple of the recent London interviews, Adam did not seem to expect to have Queen fans buy him pop music -- he very clearly seemed to respect their love of Queen's music and want to do justice to the music and legacy of Queen. I do think that Queen gave him credibility and recognition as a great vocalist and performer, and a lot of media cred. It did not need to give him a bunch of classic rock fan converts to benefit him. |
