About Spotify, I have read DO NOT EVER USE THE "SHUFFLE" OPTION! Also, OFC, be sure you are not streaming offline. > Yes, Spotify Shuffle Play does not count -- nothing that you can do with the free phone version counts as on demand. > But the whole "make sure you stream online" is incorrect. If you download from Spotify, you can play the songs, then when you relog on to Spotify they get the count of offline plays. The only way it does not count is if you never open Spotify on the device again. That is how they pay artists royalties for offline plays. I believe Patti was referencing streaming for BB counting purposes rather than revenue purposes. On another note, the "no shuffle" ever discussion may be true on the free version but that makes no sense on the paid version. If you have a playlist, for example a full album, and have it on shuffle why in the world would the plays not count? Surely there is no reason why would care what in what order someone listened to the songs.

IKR? But really they couldn't, they had to release JT on Father's Day weekend - just think how many fathers got it as a gift.... Nica...I never thought about that! Your are so right!

Good point and That might also explain JT's wildly underestimated sales numbers. The forecasters didn't think of it either.

I think we would have new single by end of july. I hope it is ALN. HAC stations will love it ! I think the second single will be TOH and I hope that CHR/Top 40 Stations will love it. I would be very happy, however, to hear ALN pouring out of my radio!! (I love the moo, and it is a moo!)

I am thrilled and so proud of Adam's TOH placements today but I am not gonna lie...there is a very little voice inside my head saying I wish James Taylor would have waited just one more week to release his album!j/s And I am a JT fan.
Hey RCA...how is your 80's NewWave covers album looking now?!
I am happy he was #2 to a classic era icon. 47K/42K was not likely to be #1. Have a #1 album and two #3 albums is great. Plus, in about 2 years, I think albums will be dinosaurs. **** alisgr8 -- your story is amazing!!

alisgr8! WOW! Your narrative was like a stream of thought . . . I felt like I was there!
Haven't had a chance to read the thread or listen to TOH all day; just now, I sat in the dark, yeah, had a little wine, and listened. Maybe I'll feel differently tomorrow, but right now, right now, ALN just took me away . . . even further than The Original High. Doesn't mean a thing! Because, THE song that really, really is finding me (or, maybe it's the other way round) is After Hours. Is there a chance in hell it could be a single? I think it would uproot pop radio!!
Enough of me. Goodnight!

Surely there is no reason why would care what in what order someone listened to the songs. So am I. Spotify does report offline plays to Nielsen and as far as I can determine it counts for the Billboard charts -- when you relog in they get the count. I confirmed with a Spotify programmer that they collect the data and that it is in the Spotify stream data. I do not believe anyone had a source for the offline play not counting -- I never saw or found one. Or course there could be some filtering process he does not know about that happens at Nielsen but that does not make sense because Billboard is trying to determine popularity -- downloading and playing a song would certainly be an indicator of popularity. >> If anyone has any other info from Spotify or Billboard/Nielsen, I would love to see it.
