I agree, annietoo! James sometimes made my ears hurt! Is pitchy the same as "out of tune?" Because that's what I would hear. And his lower register is pretty much non-existent! I have a goodear, too. Passed cassie's pitch test with 100%! James "sweet spot" is right smack dab in the middle! The beginning of his song on Kelly and Regis, this morning, sounds pretty good. But then it goes ssoooooooooo off!

I joined this site a while back but forgot my username and password. I think I remember seeing a buy/sell page. www.nikonians.org/This is the place we get ours serviced. Really great place. I see he has a "used cameras and parts section". www.southern-nikonos.com/I live on Long Island and we didn't care for the service of the place here, but maybe they sell used ones on consignment or outright (can't remember the name but it was part way "out east"). We bought a reconditioned Ikelite strobe there. Not that you haven't thought of it, but I've seen quite a few for sale on e-bay. Not really any earth shattering suggestions here, but that's all I got. I thought of E-Bay but am resistant b/c I have never used it. If there are others for sale that means I will not be able to sell mine too. I don't need my camera serviced as it was serviced when I put it in the closet 8 years ago. The O-rings have probably dried but they are cheap and can be purchased at any dive shop. I will check out the link you provided. And if your husband has any suggestions I'd appreciate them too. Thank you.

It wouldn't surprise me if Adam were at least in part, funding Neil's adventures. I would if I were in Adam's position and I had a sibling who was extremely smart and interested in other cultures around the world. This is a very educational experience for Neil and he's probably learning more than he ever could in a classroom. Neil would never do that. He is very much into his independence. Wouldn't even borrow money for his keyboard! (Of course, he did ask Adam's fans for it. But I think that was a social experiment for him!) I am deleting this post because I find it to be mocking the poster. Pleease DM me if you have any questions, tinafea

Ha, ha! I loved is blog too. Such a gifted writer! I still have a print-out of some pages from his blog that were deleted when Neil found that the public discovered it. Let's just say there was a whopping argument between family members on what went down on Thanksgiving day.

Grrr... That Billboard voting is a huge pain. Besides the "other", the vote takes you to page 3 so that you can't just reload the page and vote again - have to go back to pg 2 - all this on a slow computer. BLAH. I guess I just don't "get" Neil. I quit reading him cause anything I read from him just sounded angry and bitter and in the attack mode so much of the time - so unlike his brother. He seems to have a following among Adam fans, so maybe I just read the wrong blogs. Oh well. :-/

I remember that his blog during Idol was good I always wondered if Idol people finally found out he was blogging about idol and made him stop. I remember towards the end around late April the comments ended. The last time he commented was at the AI concert in NJ and he was not very nice to some of them. Won't name names. He said he is building a new blog but I guess he is having to much fun and has no time. He is such a good writer wonder how is can not write for a whole year. He has alot of followers if he wrote someone might notice and give him a job.

Cassie this question is for you. I too get bummed at the JD comparisons and ther is a post on the AI official forum called "James does not have a pitch problem" by some voice expert and I was wondering what you thought. myidol.americanidol.com/go/thread/view/86789/27579881/James_Does_Not_Have__Pitch_ProblemIf you have time to explain in the Masterclass thread if that is more appropriate, just curious because what I hear just doesn't sound good but you are so good at explaining this stuff. Thanks! Since it is a slow day here, I think it would be okay to answer this here instead of the masterclass thread? The woman has impressive credentials -- much more impressive than mine. But, I have to disagree with her, in a way. Well, in many ways, but for now, just about pitch. IMO, James does not have a pitch problem but a control problem. Meaning, I don't think it is a matter of him not hearing a bad pitch. If that were the case, he would be consistently off, and he would not correct himself quickly. No, he doesn't have exact control of his voice and his breath support. So, he doesn't always hit the pitch square on. Think of shooting a gun at a target. Shooting a gun is incredibly easy. Just hold it up, pull the trigger, and blam. But, hitting the bulls eye of a distant target, and even better, hitting the MIDDLE of that bulls eye takes hours, years of practice. Total familiarity with the gun, and the impact of various environmental conditions. Perfect eye/hand coordination. And the proper breathing so as not to cause the slightest movement of the gun in your hand. (At least I think that's true. I am not into target shooting, or shooting at all.) Singing is easy. Just open your mouth, activate your vocal cords and your breath, and blam. But singing consistently on pitch, squarely on pitch, up and down your range, at different loudness levels, at different speeds..... that takes drill and practice for years. Not just singing songs for fun, but doing vocal exercises, singing scales, singing intervals (jumping from one note to another). Just as you practice hitting the center of the target when you shoot, you have to practice hitting the center of each note as you sing. Then, you also have to practice your breathing. Breathe a little too hard when you are shooting for a note, and it will go sharp. Don't have enough breath, and you will go flat. Don't have good muscle control and your pitch will vary as you hold a note for a long time. What I hear when James sings is an inconsistency in the pitch. Usually slight, but still unpleasant. Some notes right on, some notes a tad sharp or flat. It occurs more often when he is moving around.... a sure sign of lack of strong breath support. That's my opinion, and I am sticking to it! I am home sick today and watched JD on Regis. Sometimes he hit his notes well, but at other times, he really didn't...especially towards the end of the song. Most of us think of the term "pitchy" ( and thus "having pitch problems") as meaning that the notes in the songs we hear performed aren't always hit perfectly, whether or not the person can hear in his own head where the note is supposed to go, or whether or not he mainly goes there, or whether or not he sometimes can't go there due to breathing or control or technique. I am more aware of the "whys" after your post, but in any case, for lay people like me, for a singer to avoid being labeled "pitchy," the voice still needs to hit those notes consistently. One thing that amazed me watching Adam on AI during his season was how consistently he was able to do that. Combine that with his incredibly heart-felt interpretations, his charisma, his graciousness to other musicians, his humility and his articulate interviews, and you have the beginning of the force that sent me way down the rabbit hole. And he only got better from there. I am so excited to see what he comes up with for Adam 2, for all the promotional interviews and appearances he will make, and to see him sing live again
