Wow, I REALLY love Adam's new tat!!!!! It's way bigger than I expected, but I'm guessing that in the future it'll all be filled out as part of an amazing sleeve. :D I can't wait to hear Adam explain what it means to him. In the meantime, I love the symbolism of a key-- something which opens that which is locked/hidden. And most powerful of all is the skeleton key, which by definition opens any lock. Doors which normally would be inaccessible will open to the bearer of the skeleton key. Hidden truths are revealed. Someone who holds a skeleton key has power, certainly, but also must be brave enough to witness what has been brought to view. LOL, IDK, I've read way too much mythology and poetry. ;D Oh, and the first letters of Skeleton Key... hmmm... Love the tattoo! noangel I was just on my way to look up various sybolic meanongs for keys, but yours are better and more poetic than amything I'd find on Google. I like the "key to our hearts" interpretation too. But I did a quick sarch anyway because I can't help it. And I liked this one. "Skeleton Keys" have been in use since Roman times, around the first century BCE. Ever since they have had different symbolic meanings in different cultures.
The most common use for such a key as a talisman relates to doors and gateways... and opening them.
The Romans used skeleton keys as a symbol of Janus, the god of doorways. (He kept out unwanted energy from the home.) The Greeks used the keys as a symbol of the goddess Hecate, (she unlocked the mysteries of magic.)
An effective way to use a key as a talisman is to charge it with positive energy when you're looking to pass from an old situation and into a new one. A job change for instance, or initiation. Such a talisman can help you pass through a period of change more easily, because you symbolically possess the means of "unlocking" the secrets of new things!
For anyone who can't wait for the penny Royal version. I came across these vintage key necklaces. www.artnovella.com/2010/09/08/natural-history-treasury/

Maybe I'm missing something but the key tattoo looks like it has a wraparound vine in the post that gelly just posted. Check the last picture up close. I think the Unlocked is a great choice for #2. I also think the key is a great marketing choice for T-shirts, charms, necklaces, lyrics, etc.
