TN law passed their senate. Has not yet been voted on in their house. Will be a while before it is. Then the Gov can sign or veto. Maybe it won't actually become law. Time to keep fighting! Yes, time to harness this righteous anger and disgust to fight and win.

I sit here with my mouth open. WTF is going on in US today? In what state did this happen? TN. Seems the "regressives" (As Neil puts it) are seriously waging a war. IMHO Egos are hurting because they are losing power, because of the economy, and who knows what else and they think they are fighting for "proper" manhood in general. That is my theory anyway. Times are changing quickly. Some are freaking out. I say we export the ignorant to another planet. One way jetpack. Before I comment, I want to say: CONGRATULATIONS, DANILO!!!! That is such a HUGE achievement. So proud of you. [/color] Q3, that Grand Slam thing cracked me up. This Tennessee situation scares the shit out of me. I agree with what you're saying, Skylar, and RabbitRabbit did a post a couple of weeks ago that really resonated with me. (Sorry for the over-simplified paraphrase, RR), but basically it was about how desperate the status quo becomes when they know the ground is shifting beneath them. They become downright vicious. This is what is happening with our culture now, I'm quite sure. Those who KNOW they are losing are fighting back with the sickest, dirtiest tactics ever and playing on every emotion (fear is their specialty). We must continue to call their BS. NoAngel, Hoopla and I were having a conversation the other morning about Governor "governor" Walker of Wisconsin who has made his new quest to overturn basic gay civil liberties. These include visiting your partner in the hospital or having a say in end-of-life decisions. This is a hideously cruel act for no reason other than to broker power and it's frightening. I imagine it was discussed here, but I couldn't drop in. I really hope all of this is the upheaval before settlement of a true cultural shift. The alternative is unthinkable.

I think it is up to each of us to MAKE this a true cultural shift. It is easy to stand by and hope someone else is doing something. Those who get it are called to fight against such blatant injustice. I truly believe Adam's fans together can do incredible things by standing up for their beliefs, setting the example, spreading the word, and signing the online petitions to change the law. There is incredible passion, power, and smarts in Adam's fan base. After seeing the Uganda law prevented, I believe we can do it here. AVAAZ is the best method. I'm going to see if they have already started a petition. This is not to pressure anyone, ever. Being an Adam fan is about being an Adam fan and should never feel like it carries the pressure to be a human rights activist. I am simply saying the above for those who feel it is right for them.

NOTHING ABOUT ADAM IN MY POST -- JUST ABOUT EQUAL RIGHT FOR ALL.Tennessee is not exactly represented by a US average but there are many battles happening on many fronts there... If you wanted to pick a battle where you could have an effect even if you do not live in Tennessee, here is one to pick -- but send letters to the companies because the Governor will probably sign this abomination: Nissan, Comcast, FedEx, AT&T on verge of getting gay rights law pulled in Nashville The Tennessee Chamber of Commerce - chaired by Nissan, and whose other board members include such companies as Nissan, FedEx, AT&T, Comcast, DuPont, Pfizer, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Caterpillar, KPMG, Whirlpool, Embraer, Alcoa, and United HealthCare - actively lobbied for a religious right bill in the Tennessee legislature that would rescind Nashville's civil rights protections for its gay and trans citizens, and which bans every city in Tennessee from passing any civil rights laws, for anyone, ever again. The bill passed yesterday. It's on its way to the state's Republican governor for his signature, unless he vetoes it. And these companies led the way in making it happen. And let me reiterate, these companies aren't just members of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. These compares are all on the board of directors of the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. They run the TN Chamber. Link: gay.americablog.com/2011/05/nissan-comcast-fedex-at-on-verge-of.htmlMore about this bill"Eyes are turning to Gov. Bill Haslam now on a back-and-forth battle over whether companies doing business with Davidson County will have to pledge not to discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity." Read more: Eyes on Haslam with Metro gay policy | Nashville Business Journal www.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/2011/05/20/haslam-metro-tennessee-discrimination.htmlAnd another not so laughable gem from the "Christian" Right in TN:Out actor, entertainer and LGBT rights campaigner George Takei has released a YouTube video on Tennessee's "Don't Say Gay" bill, legislation awaiting a floor vote in the state senate that would outlaw mention of sexuality other than heterosexual marriage in K-8 schools. Takei has an alternative solution to this problem. Don't say gay, say Takei! Link: www.care2.com/causes/education/blog/george-takei-takes-on-tennessees-dont-say-gay-bill/NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A bill passed Friday by the Tennessee Senate would forbid public school teachers and students in grades kindergarten through eight from discussing the fact that some people are gay. Link: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43115864/ns/us_news-life/That are at least 14 other bills to restrict LGBT Rights in Tennessee's legislator. No Tennessee is NOT representative of America! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ But the corporate evil-doers listed above do not limit their anti-gay activities to Tennessee. .......a senior exec at FedEx was also a major donor to the Prop 8 campaign that stole marriage rights away from gay couples in California: Jonathan Cannon - Senior VP of US Operations Federal Express $9,999 gay.americablog.com/2011/05/fedexs-multi-pronged-attack-on-gaytrans.html
