I made a case for Lucy as a surprise song back on the 12th. I will be so excited if they play it ... I just ran down to tell my son that it had been soundchecked and I got the "yes, cool, Mom (I will not roll my eyes)" response but I don't care. PLEASE PLAY LUCY!!!
I am going to make my case for Lucy being the big surprise. I know that it is highly unlikely and that the case for it not being played has been viable and well-thought out, so I am not really expecting a response, just laying out my case.
The biggest reason given is that Adam did not want to introduce his music into the Queen repertoire and I can understand that:
1. At the time he only had two albums to draw upon, both of which were well in the past and not promotion material. Also, they really did not include any obvious Queen-like material, being primarily pop music. Sure there were some pop-rockish tracks but again, promo was well in the past.
2. Adam was invested in the success of the tour and understood that the audience was coming to hear Queen music. Certainly a significant portion of the audience was also coming to hear Adam, but those people probably wouldn't care if Adam sang the phone book. He wanted Queen's amazing catalog of music to be the focus.
3. Adam was not sure how he would be received by Queen die-hard fans and did not want mess with the delicate balance that winning them over would require.
But now I think Adam has good reasons to change his mind. Since then he does have an album to promote, the tour is a confirmed blazing success, and overall the Queen fans now have mostly accepted him. His album, which came out months ago, also has a song that features Brian May. Individually every member of the band has had more than enough time to learn one new song. They may be over 60 but "old" people like to learn new things, it keeps them fresh, I should know. Adam might even appreciate thought being put into a concert version of Lucy for the future, although considering the source that might be pretty intimidating for Adam's potential band members. Here, play this solo like Brian May ... ??? and by the way here is the YT for guidance.
Anyway, I think there is a much better case for playing an Adam song during a Queen/Adam Lambert than there has ever been. Am I expecting them to play Lucy, definitely not. Would I be overjoyed if they did, absolutely.
