Recap (while I can't sleep) of the Chattyman recording today!
Had given up hope of tickets until 24 hours before when a contact of
BristolGill offered two 'priority' seats....so lucky. Lucky her for getting tix and lucky me that she asked me to go with her.
We joined the queue at the Studio on the South Bank at about 3.45pm and took our (very good) seats about an hour later. The set looked familiar but so much smaller than it appears on TV.
There was little preamble - Adam needed to get off to the Attitude awards so he was 'done' first, though he will be shown in the latter half of the show on Friday.
It seemed to happen very suddenly - he was introduced to great cheers and came down the stairs in front of us. I tend to say when I don't like his styling (!) but I can honestly say that I thought he looked pretty perfect - sophisticated and elegant, hair smoothed back. There are pics here of him later at Attitude and it was the same suit/hair etc. He also wore his thick soled brothelcreepers. He looked very tall and slim - especially next to Alan Carr!
The chat was genuinely funny and warm. Adam brought his own tequila this time...two beautiful, small bottles - one each. No idea if it's 'real' but they both took giant swigs. There was talk about the video and Gigi and loneliness. Lots of chat about the Queen tour in South America, with Adam saying how beautiful the young men were and how much 'fun' he had there!
He had to refer to Shoshanna who was standing just out of camera shot, when Alan asked when his new single would be out - the 13th apparently! Presumably November....
This was a much more confident and assertive Adam than the last visit with Alan Carr, where he was so sweet and giggly. He was funny, quick and charming - and very at ease. It certainly looked like there was a very real friendship and liking between him and Alan Carr. in about 45 mins of chat, there must be more than enough great material to make a great 10 min conversation.
Alan and Adam finished the interview by doing a Bohemian Rhapsody skit. Adam was hilarious. They had to do it again because Adam was moving around too much and spoiling the layout of the shot - you'll see what I mean on Friday. He also kept breaking into giggles!
When Adam was finished, he posed for photos with the other guests, perched on the arm of the sofa. He was laughing and joking - seems to be a very happy boy!
I think the vast majority of the audience was there for Adam. Every time his name was mentioned, the audience exploded. It may have been a little disconcerting for the other guests (who were rather lacklustre by comparison)....
The main floor manager caught my attention a few times....the first time Adam's name was mentioned and the crowd cheered, he looked at an assistant, raised his eyebrows and mouthed 'WOW!.
Another time I could see his amazement that the audience knew so much about Adam and the words of his songs - and he was bemused when Adam slid a quote from one of his songs into a reply and the audience recognised the words and laughed - he clearly had no idea why there was that reaction because he didn't know it was a quote (and I can't remember what it was now so great bit of storytelling....duh!)....
When Adam was finished, Shoshanna literally ran from the studio...ran....while Adam went to the right of the stage to say his thanks and goodbyes to the crew. He then walked in front of the first tiered row of seats, smiling and nodding his thanks to the audience. Several people reached out and touched him.
And then he was gone! A job very well done.
Goodbye Chattyman; Hello Attitude.....
