Mszue
I am so sorry. Life is just so rough sometimes. We recently lost my father in law to lung cancer and he had never smoked a day in his life. However, the day my son, who used to smoke, heard his grandfather had been diagnosed with lung cancer, he quit smoking and hasn't had a cigarette since. It was a big wake up call for him. I hope it will be the same for some of your family members.

mszue--so very sorry to hear about your sister. I know it hurts so much; a lot to deal with. Hang in there and spend as much time together as you can. Know that we are thinking of you always. Big hugs to you.

Hi all you wonderful, caring friends...mika..you just made me start crying again but that is a good thing. Life is so funny...I am the oldest of 5 kids and cancer is slowly taking them from the bottom up. My youngest brother is the next youngest and he has battled major health issues all his life culminating in two kidney transplants requiring a lifetime reliance on anti-rejection steroids...which promote cancer. He has already successfully battled one cancer...
good grief....wallow why don't you... sorry....
I don't live that close....a good 14+ hour trip but we have been skyping a fair bit so that is good.
I wish this would have shocked everyone into quitting but it didn't even stop her....even when it is killing her!! We Skype from the garage where she goes to smoke as she/they quit smoking in the house! Funny....that has become the social place for the whole family...no more car park there...and he is a heavy duty mechanic...so he works on vehicles there and the family sits and smokes on the other half. The family cars sit outside in the rain and snow hehehe
On a brighter note...sort of...have any of you watched "The Big C"? It is a marvellous series of 2 years...starred Laura Linney...and it is really wonderful...funny...poignant...moving. Wish me luck on recommending my sister watch it. I have been afraid to do that but seriously, can't afford to wait now and who knows, it may help...
actually....now I could do with some advice/input from you all. Sister Gill is an iceberg kind of gal. Does not talk about things deep much...is very much the stoic. It is tremendously hard to know how to approach things or to help. She has kept the world at arms length. Her husband is the 'feeler' and he is completely devastated. So Gill is holding him up. They have raised mirror images of themselves...the son is also an emotional feeler and the daughter is a self-involved chillier. I have wanted to recommend this tv series and the film Wit for some time but always backed off....now I am not sure if I should just keep it to myself or follow through with a suggestion.
Neither of those stories deal with smoking as a cause so there would be no sense of prosylitizing or anything like that....what do you all think? We have never been especially close...but nobody gets close to Gill except her kids and husband...and that is not 'mucky'...

Scary times, mszue. Offer support where it is appropriate and appreciated. Hopefully the others will at least begin to think of quitting. Very sad, but your sister may feel that there is no reason to quit now.

Damn! I typed another post and it went poof. TY to everyone who sent me good wishes and encouragement! xoxoxo Mszue, me, my Mom and Dad quit smoking using the electronic cigarette. Mom got lung cancer znd had part of a lung removed not too long ago. Luckily they aught it early and she is cancer free. With the e-cig, you simulate smoking and can ween yourself off the nicotine over time. As I've said in my earlier posts, it is very difficult for me to type. I'll send you my # in a pm and you can call me and I can tell you more. Oh, and have a piggy puff for me Love to everyone.

Mszue I'm sorry to hear about your sister's condition. I haven't had anyone close to me to with cancer so I can't possibly know what you are going through my only advice is as crazylady stated earlier is be sure to spend as much time as possible with her.
