Hi. Good news! Sort of. She has two very small spots on her lung. The doctor recommends having surgery to remove it and most likely no radiation. He is sending her to a surgeon he works with. She'll give me more details when she gets home. That was like the longest 4 hours in my life. Still have surgery to go through, but thank the universe cancer wasn't found anywhere else. Thanks again for the hugs guys. Thank goodness! It sounds very treatable! So lucky they found it early!

Good morning! Need your help - some good friends are getting ready to go to Jacksonville, FL; Savannah, GA; and Charleston, SC. Do any Atoppers have any suggestions on things to do, places not to miss or dining suggestions? They leave tomorrow but are going to Asheville, NC, first and will be gone 3-4 weeks as they are driving so they can adjust their schedule as needed.
Thanks, in advance, for any help you can provide!

I can provide restaurant recommendations if you provide some idea of what they like -- local food, gourmet, high-end restaurants, great deals, and so on. All three places have great visitors' bureaus -- they should check online but also stop by -- sometimes the have special deals.

Savannah is great. Be sure to eat at the Lady & Sons for a real old-fashioned southern experience. Also I had one of the best brunches of my whole life at Huey's on the River. Just hanging out on Factor's Walk and the historic area and taking some of the historic home tours in Savannah is amazing. The Owens-Thomas House was great. If your friends like history they should ride out to Fort Pulaski and tour the 1812 era fort. Also in nearby Pooler is a fantastic museum dedicated to the "Mighty" 8th Air Force if they are interested in military and WWII history. I am envious!

They prefer local food, but would like a couple of gourmet/high-end restaurant suggestions as well. Really appreciate the help!

I live in Jacksonville, FL and would actually recommend a couple of places nearby, instead. If they like fancy resorts with excellent dining, they should go to the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island. Right on a great, private beach, excellent dining at Salt, near a quaint shrimping village with nice shops (Fernandina). www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/AmeliaIsland/Dining/Default.htmIf they like history, I'd tell them to go about 45 minutes past Jax to St. Augustine, the oldest city in America. I like to stay here at Casa Monica www.casamonica.com/. It's a historic renovated building right at the edge of the historic section of St. Augustine. Also, excellent dining. Lots of touristy stuff to do including visiting the fort, carriage rides, lots of shops, restaurants, etc. I go there all the time, sometimes just for lunch.

Could you please give a bit more info about your friends, do they like more casual style, more formal, more historic sightseeing, more evening activities? Asheville, Charleston and Savannah each have so much to see that it is hard to even start somewhere. Are they still looking for nice B&B or convenient hotels? Concur with what is said further up, St. Augustine is not to be missed. Besides all the sightseeing it does have beautiful white beaches too. Where are your friends from? Looking for relaxation or looking to keep busy? Just trying to get a bit better feel before starting a list.
