Q: How many opportunities were there in June 2009 to sing the NA and who got those opportunities?
There were at least 400 pro sports events in the US in June 2009.
Here are a few of the Idols who performed national anthems in May - June 2009 at pro sports events:
May 9, 2009 Danny Gokey Milwaukee Brewers Game
June 6, 2009 David Archuleta Real Salt Lake vs. Colorado Rockies
Jun 7, 2009 Kris Allen NBA Finals Game 2 (national broadcast)
Jun 11, 2009 Kelly Clarkson Yankees Opening Game
Jun 26, 2009 Taylor Hicks smiles Chicago Cubs-Detroit Major League gam
Also June 16, 2009 Carrie Underwood 2009 City of Hope softball game (a major LA-area and national corporate Charity event) -- 19 was involved with the event.
Carrie sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLIV. Kelly at the World Series. Jennifer Hudson sang it at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Daughty and Jordin have sung the NA at the NFC Championship Game. Kris got the Pro Bowl. Clay many NFL games, NHL playoff, etc. ETC.
And, as far as I know, Adam has never been asked to sing the National Anthem at a Pro Sports game -- even. Just high school games.
Q. He's a fantastic singer, I realize that, but he doesn't exactly scream sporting event singer to me. Personally I can't see him in a jersey and jeans trudging out on the field and there are only so many national holidays to sing the NA at, Memorial Day and July 4th being the only major ones I can think of and both years since he came off Idol he's been kind of busy.
There are at least 11 official celebrations in Washington DC where the SSB is sung each year. There are 12 every 4 years when the president is inaugurated.
There are other important SSB performances for patriotic holidays that are not in DC.
For two years, I have been saying that he must be too busy, or he is on tour, or.......
But sorry, I do not buy it any more. And there does not appear to be any requirement that a SSB singer be interested in the sport that they sing the anthem for -- Allison Iraheta did the LA Marathon SSB and I doubt she runs marathons.
Do you really think if Adam was asked to sing the SSB for the NFC playoffs -- one of the highest rated programs on US TV -- he would say sorry, I do not really like football? And he was OK singing the SSB for football when he was in high school. So no, that makes no sense to me.
