Talk about TRESPASSING, lol.
Genre bounderies...naaaah, not for Adam Don't go to Nashville, haha
No Trespassing, thats what it said, at least that's what I could read. No Trespassers? Yeah, my ass! Wait 'til ya get a load of me!
Gender boundries...naaah, not for Adam Let's take some gender-ambiguous lyrics and blow them open even further
One day I was trippin' and thats when I could see That the ether I had tapped into could be reality
And he is climbing his own optimistic vine ever since.
What a moment, and how unexpected. And add me to the list of those, who want to hear how this whole thing went down. When did he find out? Did he think someone was trying to prank him, or what did he think? Did his managers believe it, at first? They must have been a tad stunned at that first phone call, as well.
And why did CMT pick these two artists? Besides the short term logistics of who could sing and was available, maybe there was some interest to really set a sign. Let the world see that country music is breaking out of its shell too. Handing a song that was already quite far out there and dialing it up further by having Adam sing it, was gutsy by them too. I think, they did want to make a statement, and they succeeded.
By the way, I loved the generosity expressed towards Adam by the two band members in the audience, and also in that tweet. I think they really wrote this song in a general spirit liberated from traditional gender boundaries and enjoyed Adam's easygoing ability to handle it in that same spirit.
And Leona Lewis, she sang very nicely too, they both did well.

The way he looked and sounded when he sang "her lips" and "blonde hair"... Be still my heart. And didn't "laugh" remind you of "nervous" in Mad World? He's just so good. ILHSFM. Loved those and I really loved him taking "I wanna drown myself in a..." to that gorgeous minor note too.

Add me to the list of how and why Adam & Leona got chosen for this. Pretty much every major country artist lives in Nashville! They could have used anyone! Hope he gets asked in an interview!

FABULOUS REVIEW: SOOOO GOOD...heart emoticon Adam Lambert & Leona Lewis Have A ‘Girl Crush’ At CMT Artists Of The Year 2015
~ Hollywood Life
It’s one of Little Big Town’s best songs, but Adam Lambert and Leona Lewis made ‘Girl Crush’ totally their own at the CMT Artists of The Year 2015 ceremony! The unlikely duo honored the band with a gorgeous performance of the smash hit. They’re not country singers, but Adam Lambert and Leona Lewis should definitely think about switching genres! The two powerhouse singers took on Little Big Town’s gorgeous ballad “Girl Crush,” proving why the band deserves to be one of the CMT Artists of The Year. That song is so beautiful! The duo took to the stage at the awards ceremony on December 2, and stunned us all! Adam and Leona made “Girl Crush” just as smooth and sexy as when Little Big Town sings it, but added their own flair. Both dressed to the nines in dressy black outfits, Adam looking dapper and Leona, effortlessly cool with long, blonde braids, it was incredible to behold. Like all the performances this night, the band that they were paying tribute to was the most important facet of their show. Nothing flashy about their set, just dim lighting and some background fog. Lovely! You know that “Girl Crush” is an amazing song when Martina McBride calls it a “fantastic success!” Only two of the members of Little Big Town, Karen Fairchild and Phillip Sweet, were at the celebration to accept their award and take in the performance, because Kimberly Schlapman and Jimi Westbrook were at home dealing with the tragic death of his sister, Joyce, who passed away from cancer just three days before the ceremony. “This is for you, Joyce,” Karen said before Adam and Leona took the stage. What a beautiful, moving tribute. HollywoodLifers, what did you think about Adam & Leona’s performance? Tell us in the comments!
