This was such a good twitlonger, from Adam Lambert Numbers, that I decided to just steal it!  Radio update for ALN, Dec. 13th
Today is the last published chart of 2015 that could have had recurrents. Unfortunately, no songs are eligible to go recurrent on either HAC or Top 40 today. Next Sunday will begin, what people refer to as the holiday "freeze." All it means is there will be no recurrents or purges pulled from the charts. This tends to make the charts stagnant. Spins & normal movement are still counted though and charted. It only lasts 2 Sundays. Here are this morning's numbers. They should be the same, on tonight's Official Published Chart. HAC #29: down one from last week, but with increased spins. This chart is very stagnant at the moment. Top 40: #48, up 2 positions from last week with an increase of over 100 spins. The next published chart with recurrents and purges will be January 3rd. At that time, there could be 6 or more songs (above ALN) being pulled.Also, here is the post from All Access about the "freeze" that i posted here a few weeks ago. 
The final MEDIABASE Published charts of 2015 using recurrent rules will be on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13th. The final add dates for 2015 are MONDAY, DECEMBER 14th and TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15th. MEDIABASE charts will post on the website without recurrents removed on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 20th and SUNDAY, DECEMBER 27th. The first MEDIABASE Published charts of 2016 with recurrents being removed will post on SUNDAY, JANUARY 3rd. Addboard will reopen on WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2015, with the first add deadlines of 2016 being MONDAY, JANUARY 4th and TUESDAY, JANUARY 5th.

Damn these numbers are confusing. I don't even know the difference between HAC and Top 40. Which one is more important and What position is hot? The first thing to know about numbers is that you'll never know everything so you are off to a good start already. So let's answer HAC and Top40 a bit. As a youngster if you listen to radio you are more likely to listen to a Top40 station or make your playlist more on Top40 songs. Top40 stations tend to play their most popular songs once an hour whereas a HAC station would play theirs half as often at the most. Are the songs really that different? If you compare charts then no, not really that much. Many songs make it on both charts but they'll go higher in the rankings on one or the other. There are people here who can say why a song is HAC leaning or Top40 leaning based on the style or the beat. We talk sometimes about the churn of a chart. Top40, because it plays songs so often, really chews through songs and listeners start getting tired of songs faster because they hear them so dang often. So the Top 40 chart can change faster than the HAC but at the same time more songs are pushed to Top40 so there's a lot more competition especially in the songs that are just breaking into the charts. Why are the numbers people happy with the way ALN is going? Because so far it's charting on radio just like WWFM and Ghost Town. Could streaming numbers be better? Yes, but you can't compare the path there of ALN to Ghost Town, radio play will have to push ALN where all the new album hype helped push Ghost Town. Anyway, welcome to the thread. As far as the Billboard charts go, too, won't the placement of ALN be affected by the fact that a lot of people already own it with the album, so they're not buying it again? I tried to help in a tiny way by buying the remix tracks separately, two from Amazon and two from ITunes. ETA: and that would really affect iTunes numbers... I'm not worried about ALN; just looking forward to January and the end of the Christmas freeze. |

I never could get the detail yesterday because I didn't have time in the morning before we left mangokat's and then when I tried last night after the contest All Access was all screwed up and couldn't load pages half the time. It was fine this morning but too late to get the previous day's info. But here is today's detail. Not sure what's happening with Canada as nothing is coming up for either leaders or starters.
