Maybe we could put this in tomorrow's thread to get to a new topic? Weird. I'm pretty sure I'm not an empath but I fit a lot of these, especially when I was a kid. I had a weird connection to inanimate objects and thought they had feelings, I knew I was a little weird so I kept my mouth shut but wanted to cry when my dad broke an old chair for kindle, "But it's meant to be a chair not fire wood!!!!" I could go on and on....I was a weird kid. :-/ I would say Adam does fit most of these. What say you Adamtopia, for those who met him, did you feel like Adam could read your soul. Aw, hoppers, I'm sorry -- what an awful moment for you! Esepcially, as you say, to have your (understandable) feelings of rage against that kind of "you're not worthy-ness" be wakened by a 9-year-old. Good grief -- children have to be carefully taught to have prejudices like that, don't they, as the song from South Pacific goes?
We're all so hell-bent to be part of the In group, whether that's a clique in high school or the cool crowd at work or the "saved" versus the "heathen" , we all look for an Us to be part of that makes us feel bigger than our small selves. And that would be okay, if it weren't so darned humanly easy to slip from "We're great" to "We're better than you." Way too much evil has been done in the world as a result.
Thanks for telling your story -- I was puzzled by the vehement response from some folks here to that tweet because it didn't strike me that way at all -- I just hear his, "Yippee!" because not only did he get the rocker mentor he really wanted, but they had their faith in common which is the sort of thing that would make anyone feel like they had an even better shot at bonding.
Now I get it.
Love all the voices here. If we could all share, and all listen, the way we do here, something really good could happen in the world.

You are a brave woman and I admire your honesty  Aw thanks, I appreciate that. Pretty sure it's going to be an unpopular opinion. IMO, you make a valid point. My previous post may make it seem that I disagree with you. I don't. As the song is South Pacific states, you have to be taught. James has been taught to believe in certain "truths". Those things he has been taught has nothing to do with his condition. He has been taught to be judgemental. His conditions takes that as an absolute state and he says what he says. I understand why he does it. Hhopefully, someone will come along and teach him a different way. |

IDK Aloha. I appreciate where you are coming from, and your son sounds wonderful. But your son is not James, and James is not your son. You can't help but see your son when you look at James, I get that. I think it is common for those emotionally involved with family members and friends with disabilities to project their own situations onto others. But it is projection. And honestly, it feels like emotional blackmail. I'm tired of feeling like a bad person when I have an increasingly hard time excusing every little thing James does. , the reason I did not post for a very long time was because I was afraid it would come across this way. I apologize. It was not my intention. |

Hoppers and Maria, I love you both and I understand what you are saying. I'm not being an apologist for James, just trying to shed some light on the disorder. I did say he is brave, I never said he is perfect. Thank you all for your feedback. It means so much to me because Atop is my sanctuary.

This is all the AI 10 producer's fault , they hint that durb is going to be Adam 2 which he is not, how I wish they dubbed durb as Kris 2 or David 2 so Adam fans don't have to deal with this shit .
Because durb identifying with Asperger syndrome , he is not responsible for anything or everything he said about Adam ? BS and it's not fair to the people he had insulted.
I wish he would leave Adam alone.

I appreciate the courage of fellow Atopians who opened their hearts to us today so we could gain knowledge and understanding of some of their very personal life experiences. So many different perspectives and everybody respecting and communicating with each other to help us all grow. I truly feel blessed to have found this community. Moving on....I wonder if Adam was working with anybody in the studio today? And if he was..... where the heck was it?! ??? ETA: Good nite all!  |
