Boy, have the times, and I, changed. When The Beatles' Revolution was used for a Nike commercial, I was incensed--like now that Michael Jackson owns half the catalog he's using it for lowly commercial purposes in a cash grab and ruining the integrity of the song, then when Dylan, always the iconoclast, started doing the Victoria's Secret commercials (2000s?), I was outraged. Why is that old man denigrating his image and music among skimpily clad models?
Now I'm like yay! Oreos! Adam! Let's celebrate our diversity and openness with a cookie! I saw the commercial Monday night and was grabbed by the visuals and was humming the jingle when I went to bed. I didn't realize that it was Adam till I checked out Adamtopia in bed.
I know, I know. There is a long and honored tradition of some of the best songwriters writing jingles and some of the best singers singing them. But I prolly would have a thought a jingle was slumming at one time.
Now it really IS any way to get there is totally acceptable and valid, particularly with the implosion of record sales and the whole new business landscape. No such thing as "selling out" as it was called in the heyday of alternative/college music.
As a matter of fact, I've been craving Oreos for three days now and I just found a glorious unopened pack of crisp ones! (I usually rag on my husband for buying them too often--not now, lol) I just ate five one after the other.
My OCD technique:
Half-dunker here. Fresh cold milk. I need to dunk the Oreo exactly halfway, between the "R" and the "E." Not too long, needs to remain crisp. Then I eat the first half. Rotate, dunk, and eat the second half. No pulling apart.
When I was a kid, I remember opening the cookie, eating the cream inside, then throwing the chocolate cookie part away! I wouldn't do that now! It would be the yin without the yang!
