Does anyone know from past seasons how "the bottom" works from now on? Is it still 3 people or do they lower it to 2? And do the judges still choose who goes home or is it based on vote counts?

I asked on twitter if the judges still select who goes home and was told they do. Someone asked what opportunities present themselves for contestants. I don't follow closely but I know one of Gaga's dancers was on the show, he has an important part in her stuff. Lots of the ballroom dancers have gone over to DWTS. Another girl who was on the show was the lead in the Flashdance remake. I'm sure it is a terrific avenue for these dancers to get noticed.

I sent the vid of Sasha and Melanie to my cousin who's a retired dancer. She wasn't super impressed with the choreography: "They both are strong...their leg extensions and turns are both good, but while the dance demands strong movements and synchronization it didn't call for a a build up or let down of emotion, or very many different positions and movement phrases. The dance was pretty much all the same. While I loved it, I was surprised with the HUGE compliments from the judges. Maybe they were just thrilled to see women dance a "fierce" dance with so much strength. I certainly have seen just as powerful choreography before on the show but with more depth to it." My cousin thought Sasha is slightly better than Melanie. Her movements are cleaner and "crisper", and at the end of the dance when the girls take three steps forward together, my cousin said, "Sasha WAS crisp and fully extended during the last walk forward. Look at the difference between her arm/hand position versus Melanie's... Beautiful!!!" My own comments: I like Melanie. She's a nice girl and an excellent dancer, but Sasha's better. I love Sasha's long, elegant lines. Melanie's kinda built like a tank. OK, not really, but Melanie is shorter, and way thicker through the waist and legs, and I just prefer Sasha's strong-as-steel, beautiful, kick-ass body. That is all. ETA: and valilac, than you so much for bringing over all the loot!!  PS Has an African-American girl ever won SYTYCD??? |

99% sure the answer is no. Another reason why I don't know why Nigel is pimping Melanie so hard!
Someone, at MJ's with dance experience, said the same thing about the choreography.
ETA: Just watched the video above. Interesting that Melanie is aware she has been doing the same type of dances.
