And when you click the drop down to change to "All" I don't know about anyone else, but I can only get a few pagefuls of results and then it just stops. Kinda irritating. |

Good question. I usually can just hear a note and tell what it is, or approximate it within a half step. (i.e. That high note in WLL sounds like a G5, or perhaps an F#5. -- Adam is harder for me to pinpoint than many other singers or instruments because that clear, ringing tone deceives my ear into thinking it is higher than it is.) I also have a piano, and double check my ear with the actual notes. Once I get my ear "calibrated" to the song, I can tell you the rest of the notes and chords relative to that first one.(i.e. If that high note is an F#5, then the low note in the verse before is an E3.) How does his clear pronunciation factor into this? My daughter has bi-lateral hearing aides and often has trouble understanding lyrics. She comments all the time that she never has to Google lyrics for Adam. She always understands what he is saying. I think that is why his lyrics are often thought to be controversial. Some singers have much more radical lyrics than Adam, but no one notices. This is the third or fourth mention of people with hearing losses being able to understand Adam's lyrics when they don't understand other singers. I find that fascinating! It has nothing to do with pitch, actually. The pitch or notes are sustained on vowels --- which are the easiest speech sounds to hear, because they are louder, and at a lower frequency. Clear articulation of lyrics has to do with pronouncing the consonants in the words. This is where that classical training of Adam's comes in. There are techniques one learns to make those consonants clearly audible, without popping or hissing them. It's one of those things that we don't normally notice except in its absence, when we say, "She sounds good, but I can't understand the words. (Allison???)" Obviously, from the reports of people with hearing losses, Adam does an exceptional job of articulating and diction, yet he still sounds contemporary, not "snobby classical." |

Aww, they played Mad World on SYTYCD, except it's not Adam's. Of course Adam's version is much preferred.
Sasha is really good, she and her sister get a lot of air time, good for her.

I really like Natalia too.. but, after seeing some of the dancers who were getting cut made me wonder why they were keeping her..I just didn't see the expertise that some of the other dancers had. j/s |
