I totally get what you are saying and I have my own thoughts. They have to do with the reality show factor and other things. When the public perceives a singer as having "evolved" slowly, worked "small" for a period of time, changed here and there, and finally emerged with some hard-won success, I think they are more likely to give them their due, aka, respect. You don't to "like" Bowie or his music, but most people will damn well respect him. Other legacy-type singers are like that. I think we all want Adam to have longevity in the music business (and in show business in general), by virtue of his talent and the support of those fans who will stick by him over time. Shows like AI tend to negate that idea of "paying one's dues" and creating and re-creating one's craft over a long period of time. I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW that some artists pop up suddenly with very little experience and just hit it lucky with a big song. It happens. Good for them.
I agree with you about the raw, uninhibited Adam that we saw at the first Fantasy Springs. I MISS IT SO MUCH. The GNT tour was like that, too. If the public at large had embraced that persona, he may have hung onto it a while longer before he moved on. But he has to market himself carefully. He's toned it down a lot, and may eventually have done so regardless of public perception, but sometimes I think he's toned it down a bit too much. It's been quite a while now since Idol, and many people don't even remember him on Idol firsthand or know what he was like his first few years past Idol. They just know what they see now, and for some, it just might not be enough to excite them. His voice is every bit as good, of course, but some of his edge is gone. He's still sexy, but in a more sleek, classy, cool way, not so down and dirty and grungy (which I love). I know some singers can be all uber-sexual all the time and the public loves it. But they didn't all come from AI either. It's interesting that his foreign fan bases are quite strong. And the Queen gig is a God-send, giving his true, bona fide CRED in the music world.
I know I have said nothing new here, but I know how I feel. I want some of that original Adam back sometimes, along with the new, sleeker, more sophisticated version. Whatever his persona is, I want him to last a lifetime performing, gaining RESPECT and new fans along the way. I want him to stand out in the crowd with distinction, memorable and worthy of long-term respect and admiration. I want his legacy to mean something. Sorry I'm so long with this. Just had to vent!
I personally diddnt like Gnt. In terms of the over the top Glam. Not to mention the stupid continuing kissing Tommy. Toh tour far better. Adam looks so much better without all the makeup. I prefer this era but thats just me. I dont think Adams necessarily lost alot of edge. Just hes evolved. He wore edgy outfits as a way of a mask. I just think hes over it lol. And has outgrown that time. The key is fans to adapt with him. 3ku1, I'm on board with everything you said. Adam, himself, has said that he was hiding behind the over-the-topness. I had to get used to GNT as it was not a style of entertainment that I'm drawn to. I did go to three concerts. I think he stands out in a crowd just fine (did we all see the women gawking at him at the CD red carpet?). I'd rather he stand out for his voice than for makeup, etc.

We all love Adam and different fans prefer different sides of him. All good. I sense that almost everybody has embraced every chapter of this journey. In terms of "success" as a recording artist and award show "acceptance" etc. I think Adam should not worry about pleasing current trends too much and just keep focusing on being as authentic as possible. Adele, like her or not, is a good example. Aside from that, I believe that Adam would be at an even higher level of stardom right now if a different single from the TP era had been chosen and if there had been more label support. TP itself is a kickass song and phenomenal in that AOBTC mash-up. Too bad that it never made it on radio. -js Oh yeah tp.should of been lead single out of the gate. Rca just stifled Adam I think. But gt has put Adam bk.on.the map. Heres hoping Toh is even bigger. 3ku1--I love reading your posts, but why am I getting the feeling you've been hanging out with Lilly lately?

Delurking here to post what has been bothering me all along with this Bowie 'tribute'. It was an Intel infomercial. I wish Nile hadn't associated himself with the backstage Intel/Haus of Gaga crap. To have a memoriam for an artist who shifted the entire landscape of music and reduce it to a ploy for Intel's new technology, I find to be an insult to David Bowie and his legacy. There was an article posted about this topic..wish I had it handy. In it, Nile wanted multiple artists, but the Executive Producer of the Grammys overruled him for Gaga on Intel's dime and her own agenda. Anyone see that article or am I writing it myself as I speak here? My comment has nothing to do with your statement, Freaky, doll. Many artists have deep roots in David Bowie's music, Adam included. At least Adam actually DID a memorial performance. Right down to the black stars and white orchid. I find the whole matter disgusting. If Gaga had performed her music, she could have spray painted Intel all over her and it wouldn't mean squat to me. But to do this to David Bowie..just no. My, I seem to have my voice back.. Was this the article? www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3448916/Shame-Grammys-viewers-accuse-Lady-Gaga-using-David-Bowie-tribute-sell-Intel-products.htmlETA: In looking through a sampling of the over 250 comments from I believe mostly UK folks, looks like the vast majority of them hated it. And seemed like a lot of them were David Bowie fans, many claiming that she never met him or covered his songs.
