During April, meanwhile, Lambert will be filming his role as the doomed delivery boy Eddie in Fox live musical version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which airs this fall. Lambert joins a case that includes Laverne Cox, Victoria Justice, Ryan McCartan, Reeve Carney and Staz Nair, as well as original the Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Tim Curry, in the narrator role. "I love that movie, I absolutely love it," Lambert says. "It's such a cult favorite. I just think it's incredibly silly and campy. It's way out to lunch. I think that they've assembled a great cast to bring it into this era, and I'm really looking forward to how it turns out."
ADAM LAMBERT JOINS “THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW” AS “EDDIE”
INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR AND MULTI-PLATINUM SINGER, SONGWRITER AND PERFORMER ADAM LAMBERT JOINS “THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW” AS “EDDIE”
Two-Hour Event Airs This Fall on FOX!
Lambert will play EDDIE, the rock-n-roll loving, ex-delivery boy, who emerges at Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s on a motorcycle and crashes the party.
“I grew up watching ‘Rocky Horror,’ but could never imagine that I would be part of this new vision,” said Lambert. “‘Rocky Horror’ always made me feel like it was OK to celebrate my weirdness. Hallelujah, bless my soul! I love that old time rock-n-roll!”
Lambert is a successful artist and actor whose work has earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, a BMI Award for Award-Winning Song, two GLAAD Awards, a Young Hollywood Award for Artist of the Year, a TEEN CHOICE Award for Choice Male Reality/Variety Star and a People's Choice Award nomination for Breakout Musical Artist.
Previously announced cast members include Laverne Cox (Dr. Frank-N-Furter, “Orange is the New Black”), Victoria Justice (Janet, “Victorious”), Ryan McCartan (Brad, “Liv & Maddie,” “Heathers the Musical”), Reeve Carney (Riff Raff, “Penny Dreadful,” “Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark”) and Staz Nair (Rocky, “Game of Thrones”).
THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW follows sweethearts Janet (Justice) and Brad (McCartan), who stumble upon Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s (Cox) bizarre abode. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous, flirtatious alien mad-scientist - with the help of his faithful servants, Riff Raff (Carney) and Magenta - is holding an annual, Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of “Rocky Horror” (Nair) – a fit, attractive man created solely to fulfill Frank's desires.
BLADE: Speaking of acting, you’re slated to appear as Eddie in Fox’s upcoming revival of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” this fall.
LAMBERT: I love it. I think it’s going to be a pretty amazing production. They’ve been doing these musicals on TV, but this is the first one that’s going to be filmed, it’s not a live presentation. It will have a lot of integrity to the original because they have Lou Adler on board (the original producer) and his son is producing the music. Kenny Ortega (the director) is no stranger to musicals on film and the cast they put together, I am honored to be a part of. I’m very excited.
You did a bit of acting on "Glee," and I read that you're going to be in the live TV broadcast of "The Rocky Horror Show."
When I heard about the project, I was so excited. They originally came to me to play Dr. Frankenfurter. I was flattered and [thought] that would be fun, but I thought for me, a white man, to play a transgender role feels like, in 2016, doesn't feel appropriate. It's been such an amazing time for the trans community and the liberation for that group. So I'm happy that they've cast Laverne Cox as Frankenfurter, because I think that is brilliant and brave casting. You can't really re-create Tim Curry. He's so iconic in that role and so funny and lovely. It's smart to go in a different way.

Adam Lambert On His Two (!) New Songs, ‘Rocky Horror’ & His Friendship With Kesha: Interview Robbie Daw @chartrigger | March 21, 2016 - 8:52 am
You’re such a busy guy. You also have more shows with Queen coming up, correct?
AL: Yeah, this summer. It goes one right into another. I finish here in the States at the beginning of April. We do our two back-to-back L.A. shows and then I literally leave the next day to go film Rocky Horror in Canada. And then right after that I jump over to Europe and we do the UK and European dates for the solo tour for about a month or so. And then I go right into Queen. We’re doing a bunch of big festivals all over Europe.
Are you currently learning your lines as Eddie for Rocky Horror?
AL: You know, he doesn’t really have a lot of dialogue! It’s a really fun part because it’s very much a cameo. They actually asked me early on — this is sometime last year — to look at the role of Frank-N-Furter. I was really flattered, and I thought, yeah, that could be quite fun. But [with my] schedule, [it was] just not looking likely. And on a side note, I kind of felt like in 2016, to be cis and playing the role of a trans character, it felt inappropriate to me. In the ’70s, it was different. But nowadays we have such an amazing conversation that’s started about trans and gender in this world. I think casting Laverne [Cox] was so brilliant. It’s so appropriate, you know what I mean? And to re-imagine [the character], as well, because she’s entirely different. So I said no, but when they started announcing the cast, I said, “Wait a minute — what about Eddie? I wanna play Eddie! I could do that — that’s like one song. Let me just come in and do a bit part!” Because I really, really wanted to be a part of it. I’m a big fan of the original movie, and [director] Kenny Ortega’s a lovely guy. And then I heard that Cisco Adler was producing the music and thought, oh, this is gonna be good. So, I went in and I recorded my songs already. I did my vocals, and they turned out really cool. Now I’m going in for a week in April, in Toronto, to film.
Will we actually see you on a motorcycle in your scene?
AL: You might! [Laughs]
To go back to Laverne and the reason you didn’t take the role of Frank-N-Furter, it is very cool that we’re living in a day and age where we can have the authenticity of watching an actual trans actor play a trans character, and viewers will accept that.
AL: You know, I thought to myself, my friends that are trans — how are they going to feel about casting a non-trans person saying, “I’m a sweet transvestite from transexual Transylvania”? It’s dicey. I think they made a really bold, refreshing choice on that. It’s very forward-thinking and it feels very right now, which is going to make this remake really interesting.
Adam Lambert Reveals Why He Rejected Role of Frank-N-Furter in ‘Rocky Horror’ Remake by Andy Towle March 21, 2016 | 3:03pm
In a wide-ranging interview with Idolator’s Robbie Daw, Adam Lambert spoke about the upcoming Rocky Horror Picture Show remake in which he plays the party of Eddie.
Rocky HorrorLambert was originally asked if he would play the role of Frank-N-Furter but turned it down:

atomom: Adam's artistry is in full display: the surprise of hiccuppy gasps right before "new eyes", the sensuous tongue, one-two punch of "damn" smile, head thrown back, body drops to heavy guitar beats, a lusciously looking Adam--all make NE a visual/aural feast.
