OMG! LOL!! TheWrap @thewrap 8m8 minutes ago Awkward! @samsmithworld Says He 'Should Date' Dead, Openly Gay Oscar Winner Howard Ashman goo.gl/0uabBY
Sam made a foolish, immature blunder in front of millions of people. When he was informed of his error, he replied flippantly. This whole thing is a combination of Oscar follies. A young singer with an okay voice wins an Oscar for a rather vapid, meaningless song (not his fault BTW). The backlash should teach him something about himself. I'm not particularly bashing him. I'm just not interesting in him in any way. He has a boat load of Grammys, and now he has an Oscar. Go figure. I'll stick with my guy Adam, the one with the killer voice, the lovely personality, the intelligent thoughts, the quick wit, THE HUMILITY, THE KINDNESS. And the one Grammy nom that may someday accompany a much-deserved Grammy win.

THAT ought to teach Sam that you do not drink at award events until after your win/loss has passed...and then drink sparingly until you are "out of the building" lol....he is paying for this in spades eta I just saw the comments on the word 'palaver'....I was raised using that term all the time....perhaps it is a British thing? eta2 did they not make quite a thing of the new process this year where each contestant was to submit an acceptance speech [on spec] so that it could show on the teleprompter if they won.....it was to speed up the speeches and lose the whole off the cuff thank the world stuff. Either Sam did not submit, or forgot to refer to it....another lesson learned....do your homework haha

And he had this to say after the win: The vehemence and rush to judgement people allow themselves when using social media is frightening to me. Where's the love? Where is the kindness? Where is the forgiveness and understanding we would want for ourselves? I don't know much about Sam Smith, but if the worst things he is ever guilty of are awkward speech and writing a bad song, he is doing okay, especially at 23 with all that fame. Caveat: Not meaning to be offensive, YMMV, all the above in my opinion only.

Unfortunately SS admitted to writing the song in 10 minutes, however I'm not sure if he did the music, so indeed he is credited with this song and is totally responsible for this vapid piece of work.

It was Sam's mediocre offering and inebriated [his excuse] hubris that brought it on. Shakespeare created a stellar career writing of tragedies based on a 'hero' brought down on his own petard by his personal weaknesses. That is what happened here...If Sam had put in a modicum of effort into creating a thoughtful thank you ahead of time, none of this would have happened. If we protect him from his comeuppance, how will he learn he is not invincible....??

Adamrocks, I met that young lady last night( glambertparty....the picture you posted). She went to the concert with a friend, and her friend's parents were sitting right in front of us. After they met Adam at the Meet and Greet, they were so giddy! We asked them how it was, and they told us, "He's so tall, and he smells so good!" Lol. The concert was so great! My friends, who are not Glamberts, had a great time and loved the concert. That is very telling. I thought Adam sang his face off and he seemed so happy. I loved seeing him in a smaller venue. He looks like a Greek God and sings like one. I was sitting in row 21 which was about the halfway point from the stage to the exit door, and everybody around me was totally involved in what was going on, singing and clapping, dancing, etc.! It was a very diverse audience. i am also super pleased with the review from John Moser. As someone here pointed out, he is no Glambert. For him to write what he did is huge....recognizing Adam's improvement in singing style and his more sophisticated performance was accurate. It reminds me a little of the NYT review of TOH, when the reviewer said something to the effect that Adam tailored his voice to be in service to the song as opposed to Nate Reuss, who just over sang everything. There's hope for Moser yet. What at a wonderful concert experience.

Many in the gay community though, feel that he only speaks publicly about being proudly out when it most benefits himself...... and in turn keeps close mouthed about the subject when doing so is also to his benefit. Sam also made this faux pas in the press room after his Golden Globe win....

ILHSFM!!! I just just learned a new term, Supāku yorokobi, which is Japanese for "spark joy"-so perfectly describes Adam's effect on me!
