Judging from the reports of playlist adds for WTTS and the streaming increases I get the feeling that WBR may be focusing first on building the streaming numbers and showing increases there before pushing radio in the US. This could be a better strategy since ALN didn't take off in streaming even with radio play building the streaming first will give them better leverage to get radio on board.

Given that WBR has deals with Shazam and I think Spotify as well and all the articles I've seen recently that are touting playlist adds as the best way to get songs to break I think that's what they are trying to do. GT was driven early on by making some countries viral lists and some playlist adds. From what I'm seeing in articles it looks like radio is paying more and more attention to streaming rather than sales for indication of what songs are really cutting it and I think that is why GT hung in for as long as it did because the sales really never matched the level of airplay the song got. It wasn't way out of line but there were lots of comments on Pulse being surprised that radio stuck with it given the sales levels. Most felt it was doing just barely good enough to get a pass but in retrospect it was probably the streaming strength that kept it going. The new industry promotion strategy seems to be leaning more and more towards getting songs on to influential playlists. Remember that was what broke Lorde initially and really made the industry pay attention. If I remember I think it might also have been a big factor in breaking the Cheerleader Jaehn remix that did so well. That song had originally been out more than a year and the remix is what hit big building from Europe to here through streaming I think.

GT had a pretty stable stream position in the US until halfway through October yes. See my spreadsheet (daily one) for the numbers. The US is complete there. Last weekend I also updated the Global numbers for GT and it turns out it was hanging just beside the top 50 for almost the whole month of August. Hoovering on #51 for about 10 days. Then it dropped some, but on August 29th (just when it started dropping) I send out a tweet that asked all Glamberts to stream to get it into to 50 (the tweet went all around the fandom) and on September 5th it finally did. We all know it stayed there until half October after that. I am inclined to think that it was us fans who gave it that final push into the top 50 and also made sure GT had that little extra longevity.

Great news on the spins! As far as I can tell at the moment WTTS has been spun 3 times so far on Radio 538 here in the Netherlands. Haven't found any reports of any other spins elsewhere. WTTS also entered the pre-chart for the Dutch Top 40 today on #27. In Spotify it's still charted in top 200 in Finland (#61), Sweden (#127) and Norway (#181). Sweden already made it to 100k streams. Finland is close to that. Also in Spotify WTTS appeared in a couple of Viral 50 charts: Sweden #14 (#24 yesterday) Austria #18 (#24 yesterday) New Zealand #28 (#24 yesterday) Switzerland #29 (#41 yesterday) Hungary #35 Estonia #41 (#48 yesterday) Poland #50 Spotify streams are now over 1 million at 1,006,811 after 7 days. GT took 11 days to get to 1 million.
