They picked the wrong side of the country...serves them right! LOL Should have come to Vancouver! You got that right. We've been mowing lawns on the west coast since February! The weather in the Great Lakes region -- both sides of the lakes is so weird. I am south of Lake Erie -- it was 72 degrees when I flew to LA last week, it was 26 degrees when I landed very late last night. We really never had any snow this year -- none -- and I am in the snow belt. We only had a few cold days. The trees are so confused.

rosepetal, I think we can all relate to your post. On my bad days I think of Brian May and remember he called Adam his Gift From God. It always makes me feel better, and I pick myself up and go on with my life. Adam has saved most of us from those holes we dig ourselves into with thoughts that are not positive. I know he has changed my life. I don't know what I would be doing if I hadn't discovered Adam in 2009. He was truly a GFG like Brian May said.

Since no one else has chimed in, I will give you my uneducated, non-tech-savvy opinion. I'm pretty sure that openers get sound checks, too. Do they bring different sound systems? That would not be economically smart, so I would think the equipment would be the same, if not the instruments. As for personnel to man the sound system, do they have a separate crew? Again, that would seem inefficient, i.e. expensive. I think a great part of the difference in sound, tho', is Adam. His voice is very different from other pop singers. It has a resonance, a ring, a purity and richness that carries. I read a statement from a sound guy who worked with Adam. who mentioned that he had to be very careful with certain parts of Adam's range, because his voice could blow out the mic or the speakers, or the system or something. Adam also has excellent articulation of words, making it much easier to understand his lyrics than with many other singers. When I listen to other singers' performances on YT, their voices frequently sound muddied in the sound system, overpowered, or indistinct. Not just the opening acts, but the headliners. And sometimes even the headliners on a professionally done recording. this leads me to suspect that it is Adam's unique voice that is the exception, not whether an act is an opener. Yes, the opening act was sound checked. They were sound checking Alex while we waited in the GT VIP line in the hot hallway at Las Vegas. And yes, Alex's sound was not as good as Adam's sound at the 9 concerts I went to. BUT, Alex's sound was WAY, WAY better than Alison's or Orinithi's sound during the GNT!!! And Adam's vocal technique is part of the difference in sound quality between Alex's and Adam's sets, but not all. The quality of the instruments, wiring, mics, and speakers play a big part in the overall sound quality. Remember some of those radio shows during the Trespassing era where the sound during Adam's set was just awful? The radio show was using a rented speaker system that just was not of very good quality and could not handle Adam's voice. For the TOH tour, Adam and Alex are using the same speaker system, which is provided by the venue. But they are using different instruments, wiring, and mics for the opening act. They would not want to mess with Adam's setup between his sound check and his performance, so no way would Alex be using Adam's equipment even if they are using the same sound engineer! And IMO the equipment used by Alex was of inferior quality to the equipment used by Adam and his band. For example, the drum kit used by Alex's drummer was smaller and with less components than the drum kit used by Brook for Adam's set and the sound coming from it was more harsh and not as rich. The quality of the instruments, wiring, mics, and speakers play a big part in the overall sound quality. It has mostly to do with how the different equipment components respond to different input frequencies and in turn what frequencies they output, something called the "frequency response". It can get very technical and very complicated. But we know from some past article that Adam has invested in special mics that can handle his vocal range and all of the harmonics that it produces. Alex is not likely to have put that king of investment in his mics at this stage in his singing career. ITA -- Alex's sound was much better than Alison's or Oranthi's sound during GNT. Along with all the differences listed above -- Alex also did not use the same sound tech as Adam. And one other difference in LA was that Alex was very sick. And even with that he met with fans in the lobby and did photos at these concerts -- like he did in the earlier show. And he was there for almost an hour after the show. Adam made a wise choice have Alex open for him. I think he was best early in the tour.

In case you do not know, Columbus, OH is a radio test market. Mix 107.9 is the station in Ohio that has been doing the "mix it or nix it" poll with WTTS and another song for the last 4 days. WTTS has now won 4 times over the competing song, which is great if they're testing it for radio, and it'll be up again tomorrow morning. It's also great that they play both competing songs once, then the winning song gets another spin. Here's their tweet from this morning..
