I asked this yesterday but I think it got lost in the Idol discussion, haha. I've seen a lot of comments about the sound during Alex's set - too loud, too much bass, vocals buried or shrill or unintelligible. I noticed during my one show (GNT - Puyallup, WA) that Allison's set was like that too. Does the opening act not get to soundcheck and thus get some sort of generic settings that don't necessarily sound very good? Is that what would have happened to Adam if he'd ever had to be an opening act for some bigger star like Katy or Pink or Gaga? Since no one else has chimed in, I will give you my uneducated, non-tech-savvy opinion. I'm pretty sure that openers get sound checks, too. Do they bring different sound systems? That would not be economically smart, so I would think the equipment would be the same, if not the instruments. As for personnel to man the sound system, do they have a separate crew? Again, that would seem inefficient, i.e. expensive. I think a great part of the difference in sound, tho', is Adam. His voice is very different from other pop singers. It has a resonance, a ring, a purity and richness that carries. I read a statement from a sound guy who worked with Adam. who mentioned that he had to be very careful with certain parts of Adam's range, because his voice could blow out the mic or the speakers, or the system or something. Adam also has excellent articulation of words, making it much easier to understand his lyrics than with many other singers. When I listen to other singers' performances on YT, their voices frequently sound muddied in the sound system, overpowered, or indistinct. Not just the opening acts, but the headliners. And sometimes even the headliners on a professionally done recording. this leads me to suspect that it is Adam's unique voice that is the exception, not whether an act is an opener.

Coo coo cachoo, I think WTTS is a perfect QAL fit! ❤️ Wouldn't that be a treat, WTTS with the Queen sound behind it!
It would be great to hear WTTS on the QAL tour! We'll see. I'm VERY excited to read Brian May's comments about the upcoming festival tour. He says they have a new version of their stage set, a new look, etc. It sounds exciting to me! I wonder how much they will change up the set list? I'm sure it won't be exactly the same as the last QAL tour.

You're so right. Adam is one of the few who enunciates his lyrics so that you can actually understand what he's singing. So many singers, even big stars, just muffle their way through a long drawn out blur of blah. But those songs often go to #1, so go figure. Adam is a rare entity. He actually moves his mouth when he sings and pronounces actual syllables. WOW!

Is that what would have happened to Adam if he'd ever had to be an opening act for some bigger star like Katy or Pink or Gaga? There is no rule about the opener being loud. And it is not always the case. *** IMO Alex's set was not "too loud" until after Adam took the Wedding break -- Milwaukee was the first concert were Alex's set was so loud for me. And then it was really loud. But the volume on Adam's part was much higher and the sound mix shifted in Milwaukee too. >> I have been told the same thing by someone who attended every concert -- which I did not. I preferred the sound mix I heard in the earlier TOH Tour concert to the later heavier bass-percussion sound BUT there was much more energy in the room with the louder/heavier sound. Why they did it? It had to be Adam's preference. It is his show. *** Regarding Adam opening for someone else -- I doubt he would ever give up sound and creative control to anyone. He would have to make some concessions, like the opening act and co-touring acts have to agree on the sound and lighting equipment. *** IMO for the second half of the tour, and particularly in LA, Alex's performance was ruined by the loud, loud sound. I was at that concert with several people who are Adam fans but never saw him before. Most loved the concert. One of my friends - even with noise reducing earplugs -- had to move to the back of the theater because the bass and percussion was too loud.
