It already did. It's at #956. 956. Whataya Want from Me - Adam Lambert Saturday, June 18, 2011 12:07 PM Surprising to me that TLG hasn't made the top 1000 after being on the VH1 countdown this morning and its been shown twice already. Is there a reason the WWFM is moving up? (And yes, the number I posted was old, but it have been moving up all morning.) I am totally puzzled by the lack of sales for Cook. Amazon reduced the price of his CD to $9.99 and it is only #77 Amazon Bestsellers List -- and release is in 10 days. Only a few Idol alums have been able to build sales/fame after their debut album. Most have dropped. I think the three exceptions are Kelly, Carrie and Jenifer Hudson. One could argue that Daughtry is pretty stable -- but most have gone down rapidly. It will be interesting to see what will happen for Cook but it is not looking very good right now. I think Adam is in a different position than anyone from Idol. He was successful in the US and released the #29 new album of 2010 (Billboard year Oct 2009-Sept 2010) -- so really quite good. And he also did well in a lot of different countries and had a very successful worldwide tour -- headlining. But I think he is very likely to do better with his next album. And the only other Idol to do that was Kelly in 2004. We'll see -- Idol alum or not -- very few #2 albums are matching the sales of debut albums right now. The market just keeps shrinking and shrinking. And I would venture to say Jennifer Hudson is a completely different case because she was not signed after Idol. She did not release her first solo album until 2008, after she won the Oscar, which was four full years after her stint on Idol. Therefore, I think her Idol connection is more of a footnote in her biography, not really instrumental to her success at all. She MAY have got one of her first auditions for "Dreamgirls" because of Idol, but the rest was her performance as an actress and some resulting good fortune that her role was appreciated and it was a great Cinderella story.

Adam is safe. They already optioned his second album. The investment will be quite high. RCA will promote it. All that Adam has to do is provide music that is marketable.
He also has support at Sony Music Entertainment -- above Reid, and outside the US.
ETA: SusieFierce --= ITA about JHud, Idol is a footnote in her bio -- just wanted to include anyone who might be considered an Idol alum and she is.

Just for perspective on what is happening in the music biz- I know major label efforts, with all they spend on promotion, are very different than the small-indie-label world, but -
My son's indie band's latest album charted for one week on the Billboard 200 when it first came out. It was #70 that week because it sold *wait for it* 7,000 copies! Days gone by 7,000 wouldn't even get you in the top 200. And those stats from 2010 (US sales) said that 98,000 albums sold at least one copy, and of those 98,000 17% sold more than 100. 5.5% sold more than 1,000. 1.24% (1215) sold more than 10,000. 0.085% (83.3) sold more than 250,000.
My son's band is in the top 1% (!), and there is no way on the planet they could afford the boots Adam wears! LOL Selling in the tens-of-thousands and touring (a lot) in small clubs, as most indie bands do, does not produce a big income...
Also from those stats - in 2010 only approx 85 albums earned the artist/band over $250,000.
Adam is in the 0.085%! (and not in the bottom portions of that category either) That is amazing success, and he must be thrilled and grateful! What a tiny sliver of a % must Gaga and Katy Perry be in?

rumorfix.com/full-entry/2011/6/18/adam-lambert-dont-believe-everything-you-read.htmlAdam Lambert: "Don't Believe Everything You Read"POSTED ON JUNE 18, 2011 AT 9:19 AM Adam Lambert has taken to Twitter to clear up rumors that he was involved in an accident. Rumors of the accident began to spread virally on Friday, but Lambert says he's fine and is just the victim of a hoax. "An accident? Nope. Where do these things come from?” he tweeted. "Y’all can’t believe everything u read! Lol." Lambert isn't the only celebrity to fall victim to an online hoax. Jim Carrey, Will Smith, Jaden Smith and Adam Sandler have all been killed in accidents this year thanks to online pranksters.

I agree; I was talking more to what is a general perception in business that when a new executive team comes in, no one can consider themselves safe. This is a different scenario of course, because unlike a typical business structure, the talent isn't personnel, they're commodities. I do believe he is completely safe unless the person coming in was an absolute idiot. (Michelle Bachman's not looking for a job in the recording industry is she?? )

I do not think that the "Adam was in a car accident" rumor was actually on online hoax. I found posts from 4 different long-term Adam fans who claimed to have heard it on the radio (Austria) or on TV News (Croatia). I really do not think they made up what they posted. Just makes me wonder where this one really started. Maybe it went from online to Croatia News to Austria Radio News to Facebook to Twitter. But i have not found anything before the claims of hearing it on the news.
